The thumbnail associated with a contact has stopped appearing when the contact calls. They still appear when I CALL the contact.

I've tried replacing the thumbnail with another, deleting and recreating the contact, etc. etc. Nothing seems to solve the problem.

This is a frustrating problem that I've not seen addressed before. Can anyone offer suggestions?

Some phones have this problem when the contact is stored in the phone and at the SIM card.

I realize that this problem started when I copied contacts to the SIM card. However, I have now erased the SIM contacts and the problem persists. Nokia was no help. They suggested I contact my wireless provider and see if there were any issues with Caller ID. This problem stumped them as well. Oh Well! It use to work, now it doesn't. Maybe I'll figure it out eventually.

Did you restart your phone after erasing the contacts? Might help.

One thing I have noticed about the Contacts in my Nokia 6600: If I add them manually to the phone, caller ID displays the Name and Thumbnails. However, if I add Contacts from Microsoft Outlook using Nokia PC Suite, the Name and Thumbnail will not appear no matter how I format the phone number.

It seems I read before that the fields used in Outlook may not be compatible with the Contacts in the phone.

Further comments on this subject and the experience of others with loading contacts into the 6600 would be appreciated.

I had a 6600 two years ago, never had that problem.

Maybe a firmware problem... I checked the changelogs, could only find an improvement of phonebook-handling from 3.42 to 4.09. But no real clou about this particular problem.

Finally, a resolution to Caller ID not showing the name and thumbnail. It all has to do with importing Microsoft Outlook contacts into the phone via Nokia PC Suite. Outlook formats the phone number in a way that caller ID doesn't recognize. Nokia technical support confirmed this. Even if you try to correct the formatting of the phone numbers manually, it still will not work.

The solution is to manually enter contacts or import them by bluetooth from a Palm PDA as I did. Now caller ID shows the name and thumbnail. Unfortunately, Nokia PC Suite for the 6600 does not allow synchronizing with Palm Desktop software. It does allow syncing with Lotus, but I don't have that.

Hope this helps someone.

I must apologize for all the incorrect statements made about Microsoft Outlook formatting phone numbers in a way that the Nokia 6600 can't use. Statements to the contrary, my problem with my Nokia 6600 not showing thumbnails or name with the caller ID was nothing more than a duplicated phone number in the contact list. If a phone number is common to two or more contacts, the phone does not know which one to use and will only display the number. This is the way it's suppose to work. I simply was unaware that I had a duplicated number.
