I have a x426 that has "Phone locked return for servicing" on the screen. I have read most of the string of post on unlocking this phone. My question is, will I be able to make it useful using software and a data cable? Or is it now just a paperweight?

Since the X426 is an old (I'd say) phone running the Agere series chipset...
If you really want to try to revive your phone, you get yourself a Serial OEM cable and flash the X426 with a "known working" firmware. Back in the days when the phone was pretty new, I used to know how to do the flashing in theory, but since I've moved on and I don't remember anymore. So, if you want to find out how to flash, just search the forums. I'm sure there's still a thread on how to flash the X426 around.

Thanks for the info. I have a cable on the way. Though I could not find a link to any firmware for this phone. No big deal. Its a phone that we had used on a AT&T Account. We have also moved on. Im using a unlocked, debranded, modded V3 on the Cingular Network. I was just trying to get it to work with Cingular. Just a phone to use for work.
Do you know of any links to firmware and software for these phones?
Thanks Again
