ok, so i used to have an L2 with a cingular sim card, but i put it in the dryer and it got fried. But, the sim card lived. I have a motorola v505 under AT&T's name, and i was wondering how i could unlock it. Whenever i turn it on i get "Contact service provider" and after a few minutes it asks for a "subsidy password". Can someone please help?

You have to get this phone unlocked before you use it on cingular. I can unlock it but I'll need the phone... You can't unlock this phone remotly... I think... I think you need a program or a smart-clip or smart-unlocker. Pm me if you want.

so the only way to unlock it is to send it to someone and have them do it?

Call Cingular and they can attempt to unlock it remotely. I was in roughly the same situation after being given an old AT&T Wireless V505 by a friend who never used it. If you give them the EID of your phone, they MAY be able to give you the subsidy code to unlock it.

Try looking around your area for authorized cingular dealers, I know some have a smart clip and are willing to unlock it for a small fee, if not they may be able to direct you to a business that has a smart clip unlocker.

i dont have a data cable, but there is one store nearby that charges $15 to unlock any phone. Should i try calling cingular (or motorola) before asking them, or should i just go unlock it at the store?

well you can try to call them first , you might get lucky if not unlock at the store, unless you plan to do more moding with the fone then buy the cable because it cost about $15 any way!!!

cingular should have the unlock code, feed em a line of bs like you're going overseas for thanksgiving, they may give it to you, they may not it all depends on the rep, if they don't do it, just go to the store, thats actually pretty cheap for unlocking, my original razr was 40 bucks
