I was wondering if there was any way to get the audio player on the LG Chocolate (LGVX8500) to play audio files using formats other than WMA.

Yep, it plays mp3s, but you have to place them on your microSD card, not through the usb cord.

If you have a card reader, insert the microSD card into it, and place all the desired mp3s in the "my_music" directory.
If you don't have a card reader, buy one. They're only like 10-20 bucks. I actually bought mine for 8 off Newegg.
