The last two posters are correct. Transferring mp3's and playing them is easy. Everyone is making something simple difficult. As far as ring tone, download Audacity and Lame dll. Also download Bitpim. I use CDEX to extract songs from my CD's and it also converts them to mp3's. I then use Audacity to select 20 to 25 sec. clip to be used for a ringtone. I then load the clip into bitpim and convert the clip to the appropriate extension. I then send the clip to the phone via the ringer folder. Works great once you get the hang of it.

Hi all . I recently got my vx8300. I bought a microsd today and i am up late trying to get this thing to make ringtones. Anyway I didn't buy the download cable but my card came with transflash . I downloaded bitpim 1.0 and converted songs to mp3's. I then went to file/export/media file and transferred music. However my phone would not see the music due to it being in a folder called ringers. So i copy and pasted the files onto the card so that it wasn't in a file. i.e. when opening microsd card.my music/actual mp3's. Then i went in to get it now tones /my music/play all and the phone added music to my library. Now for the question. How can I take those mp3's and get the phone to set them as ringtones?

Ok, folks, I am not a computer whiz and I have been reading the posts. I bought a vx8300 for its music capabilities and I also bought the cable and a 1gb card. I keep reading about sending yourself a txt or pix message but I am not sure how. I haven't signed up at vxwpix but I see that. Is there a charge for it? It seems like copying an mp3 file from windows media (which is where my music files are) and then pasting it in the card is the easiest way. As I read the posts I get more confused. Please help.

Hi all. easiest way to get music onto micro sd seems to by first formatting your microsd card in the phone then use a transflash card and load mp3's into the music file. next put your sd card back in phone . next press ok button. go to get it now. click get tunes&tones. then go to my music. hit ok button. phone should respond by updating library.and then your good to go.

I got a new LG vx8300 yesterday from Verizon, and it shows a new v4 software version. I have been unable to access any information on the phone or copy to it using BitPim 1.0.1 via Bluetooth, though it does recognize the phone. The error message says "Access to the file/directory has been blocked on this phone by the phone provider". I really hate it when they do this. Any work-arounds available yet?
Thanks!

I just got a replacement vx8300 phone from Verizon and tried reloading my phone numbers on it using bitpim.it too was rejected. Looks like Verizon has broken all ability to play with the phone. The Music setting under the '0' service menu is also disabled.

I have no problem with ring tones, either. I download a ring tone into my Mac and then transfer it to the ring tone file of my micro sd chip. When I plug the chip into my lg8300 I just find it and soft key "save as ring tone". Viola, its now in my ring tones on the cell phone.

The 1st version of the LG VX8300's were impossible to put mp3's onto the phone without buying it from Verizon. There is a service code you can put into the phone that would allow it to play mp3's. Verizon had turned the mp3 feature off in the phones so they would be able to sell their music off of VCast. Simply go to the main menu in the phone, hit 0, and the password is 000000. (Do not mess with any other codes while in this mode) go to the last option and it should be Music Settings or mp3 Settings, and turn mp3's on. Once you do that, you will be able to use any mp3's without buying from Verizon's VCast.
Now I have been told by Verizon not to let this information out, But to tell you the truth, I bought one of the first LG VX8300's and was extremely upset with what they did, so I found a way around it. So now everyone knows how to do it seeings I spilled the beans.
Ever since Aug, 06, I have had 4 different models. LG VX8300, LG VX8600, SCH-u540, and LG VX9900. Comming this month they are giving me an LG VX10000. LG's are the top dog with Verizon Wireless.

One of (if not the best) guides to the VX8300 can be found on the Howard forums at the following (leave out the blanks): w w w. howard forums. com / showthread.php?t=1015056 .
Make sure you download and save the pdf version to your computer. Then you can read, follow the directions, & make your ringtones & mp3s work using CDex, Audacity, & BitPim. Get the cable to connect your phone to the computer. Much faster than Bluetooth & was much much cheaper than sending ringtones by mail to myself and I can delete & add new tones at any time using the cable.
This guide is very easy to follow. Just take your time & you should be able to make everything work. Remember that the guide posted by
* sc173 * is for software version 1. My phone is version 3 but I was still able to use the guide to get me there. Version 3 does support playlists for the mp3s & I didn't have to use the secret menu or 00000 to make the player work as it came already enabled.
I don't know if the guide will work for Version 4. Maybe somebody does & will post the info.
Many thanks to sc173 on howardforums for putting together the guide to help us VX8300 owners out.

ps: I did have to buy the cable w/drivers but CDex, Audacity & BitPim are free downloads.
