I have a Nokia E70 and the MP3 player was working great. However, After the firmware upgrade (2.0618.07.10 31-0-06) the volume has been diminished to a point where I can no longer use the MP3 player function reasonably (except in the most quite environments). I understand it has something to do with EU regulations? In any case I found and tested:
* a solution about creating a new preset in equalizer but that does not function well. see http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/features/item/How_to_Pump_up_the_volume -louder_music_in_S60_3rd_Edition.php
* I tried Oggplayer for the S60 3rd addition and in this version of Oggplayer does not have equalizer or volume function - so also no luck.
Does anyone have any comments or ideas of firmware/crack or a work around to get the E70 volume back to its original state? Is anyone having the same problem?

They are using the internal player of the phones, no additional software.
And with the internal player it works without a problem (but the music sounds a bit distorted).

So far the best solution has been to edit the MP3 in wave editor and save with higher volume setting. Not a great solution, but better than not being able to hear anything. I also tried to do a firmware upgrade using the USA Nokia site, but the result was nothing different - i think it could tell i was a europe user?

I checks the IMEI of the phone and can identify it from which region it comes.
The problem is mainly due to our beloved european union and it rules for the maximum volume something can have...
But still the phones have a much lower volume than other devices.

That beloved EU. I am sure the volume issue is much worse for me than the second hand smoke I inhale. I have not heard of too many deaths attributable to loud mp3 players as compared to smoking and lung cancer. Way to get the priorities straight EU!

Well, I've got to say these regulation are ok.
Way to many people got hearing problems because of loud music... last time I was in a disco I got a weak tinnitus for several hours...
But the way Nokia lowered the volume is insane. I bet it could be much louder with no problems.

I wish Nokia would increase the volume - think it must be way below the EU rules. I called Nokia and they said they have no plans for new firmware update to increase volume.
