Wed.nite 19:37 I'm surfing the forums @ Opera Mini, posted a few things, was in the middle of replying when - my phone,(Nokia6030b) shut itself off! No 'out of memory' message, no 'error occurred' message, nothing.
I was stunned. This used to happen with my Moto V180. Occurred so much I posted about it here. Was told here and at Cingular/AT&T it was a phone issue, they warranteed it. So, here are my questions: What are the odds of this happening to two phones on two different carriers (att/moto,cingular/nokia) at about the same time of day? I swear,y'all, I am not making this up! Oh,btw, I don't live in the sticks,I'm 50 miles East of NYC.

Excuse me, but I do live in the sticks. And I have answered more questions than I've asked. I've also seen plenty of city folks struggling with their phone service. Grow up, stop taking TV for face value, and quit generalizing about people and their locales. Dammit.
By the way, City Person, you didn't say if the phones started back up and operated normally or if they went down screaming in flames dying a horrible death never to be heard from again. It's all about the trouble-shooting.

Geri,
Easy there - I'm pretty sure the 'sticks' reference was with regard to the strange possibility of reception problems or tower weirdness (more common outside of urban areas) causing this error.
Hatetotype (clever name),
Aside for Geri's very relevant question about the phone's behavior after the fact, I'm curious as to what was going on when you were surfing. Did you go to any new website (yes, you said you were posting at the forums - I'm curious if that was a general statement, or exactly what you were doing when it died)? Maybe there is a bug in Opera Mini that reacted to some element in the page?
Was the battery super-low and perhaps you didn't notice (not an insult to your intelligence, simply a relevant question)?
I would try calling Cingular and asking about the problem in general and/or if there was any weirdness at your tower/area about the time you had this event.
I'm not claiming any particular knowledge about towers - and I doubt that tower weirdness could have caused the problem, but it wouldn't hurt to ask.
Keep us updated - I'm interested to know if/when you find out what happened.
Respectfully,
Jacob M.

doesn't sound like a too serious of a problem in the first place to have to call us(cingular). we'll just tell you its a typical thing that happens to cell phones, more then likely from the result of dropping it too many times, making connections a tad bit loose in the circutry. i don't think it would pertain to being on that particular website, or anything with towers, just sounds like a typical problem, very isolated and very much so a device problem. Id call cingular to see if phone is still under warrenty and if so, get a replacement, not for them to try to fix the problem.
ps.. gerio cool your jets turbo!

First, the phone is 3 days old. Lost 'G' Friday nite, no JAVA, no WAP.CSR contacted tech who said there were no issues in my area at the time. Double checked this Mon. morning. WAP and JAVA came back up late Sat.nite. Had this phone by Tuesday. Battery and signal both nominal.
Second, with the Moto, I was just using WAP(Prodigits) when it happened.
Third, Called Cingular, who assured me that there were no issues in my area, and stated if this situation were to re-occur I should warranty THIS phone.
@GERI O: Google Townville,S.C. Thats where I lived for 21 years. I am in N.Y. because my Father is dieing. You can't get much 'stick'ier than Townville! When I moved there, the building that housed the Post Office was up for sale! Bless your heart.

i'd warranty it. there's not much we can do that would take away your JAVA and WAP. and if was happening in the area, it would mostlikely affect many people and we'd know about it. for some reason your phone isn't recognizing the programming for certain apps/features and i'd send it back before it gets worse.
i lived in a town of 4000 people once. coming from vancouver, BC...quite diefferent!

I would think its a device problem, too-normally. The fact that it also happened on my v180 at about the same time of day has me puzzled though.
The only thing these phones have in common is the network. The V180 was warranteed 5 times!
With the Nokia, I was replying to a message. On both phones, it was a complete shutdown, had to power them up with the switch.
I'm not looking for the quick fix, I just threw this out there to give y'all something to think about during the _slow_ times.

O.K. I was calling my bank to check balance, etc. @7:30pm +/- Fri. nite... Not WAP, not Opera.
Loudspeaker enabled, alert tone goes off. I look to see signal strength 0 - no bars. Screen backlight goes dark, phone shuts down, like I pressed the off switch. Called C/S - 'no issues in area'. I don't think C/S or Tech. are lying to me, I just want to find out how this can happen. Gerio? Your serve.
