Although I live in NYC, I have held on to my old ATT phone because it works in certain areas where others don't such as where relatives live in area code 01821. javascript:emoticon(' ')On the coverage map, this and other relative's areas indicate "partner." I now need a new phone and given TDMA is being phased out would like some input.
Thanks,
Jo

my guess is they will sell the tdma network to other companies who want them so possibly your service MIGHT work for years IF they put in there to agree to let customers use those networks..and if someone buys the tdma network in that area. if not they will shut off the towers or remove the tdma services on them. they probably have gsm service on most of the towers that have the tdma on them.

So far, family members with GSM phones find they don't work.

that zip...01821 is in the Essex / Middlesex county area in NY state... a problematic area for years,,,... the network per se in that are remains unchanged... but with the reflagging of towers you phone *may* have missed an update... rather than trying to explain this to a rep that is probabaly not that well versed in TDMA technology (I am... been a CSR for over 6 years ...6 for former ATT ... just lately moving to the orange side)... call 611... (customer care) have them remove a non service impating feature... like call forwarding or caller ID...wait 2 hours... do not use the phone in any way for that 2 hours...BUT LEAVE IT POWERED ON...after the 2 hours has elapsed call back and have the feature re added.... by doing this it will update your service and transmit a new IRDB... (intelligent roaming database) to your phone...your second call should be from a landline or any other phone but your cel...opnce completing the call... leave the phone on and dont use it for another 2 hours... that way you wont miss the download

Elmo, do you a way for us to be able to check if we have the latest IRDB on our phones? I have a Nokia 8260 and am curious.

not anymore... I'm orange now... I cant access the old systems anymore... but if you call and remove call waiting... wait an hour or 2 and re add it... you will get a new IRDB sent to your phone by the "system"
