you can get a 1 year contract from a cingular store or through telesales (or customer care if it's an upgrade) the website will only show you 2-year pricing.
I'm sure you're aware that you'll be paying more for the phone on a one-year contract...

I'm sorry -- I realize this post is a couple of months old, but it's the first I found on contracts exclusively. I currently do not have a cellular phone plan with anyone (I just came from 6 years with Verizon, but due to their outrageous changes and cocky sales representatives in retail stores nearby, I had to switch services. I'm somewhat of a "welcome matt" and allow people to walk all over me... sometimes to the point I'll get home and cry. I hate confessing it, but it's true). I've been torn between T-Mobile and Cingular for almost three months now. I've called back and forth between customer service departments inquiring different things, but I always ask about contract durations -- just to make sure when I do sign up, I wont get sucked into a contract longer than need-be. T-Mobile always tells me the same thing -- I can have no contract, one year contract, or two year contracts. They're always incredibly nice and polite. I enjoy speaking with any representative because of their cordial nature. Cingular, however, has been confusing. I have been told multiple things (in regards to contract duration) by different customer service representatives as well as retail representatives in stores. Twice I have been told that I can have no contract but pay an outrageous price on the phone. Many other times, through the telephone, I have been told I can sign up for a one year contract. Cingular retail stores, however, maintain that I am required to have -- and they can only sign me up for -- a two year contract. So, the question is... who is correct? And, more importantly, how can I get a one year contract (this, if no contract is only available in "dream world," is what I desire) instead of a two year contract? I already purchased a couple phones off eBay (unlocked GSM phones) to be ready for whichever carrier I choose. I do have the cu500 waiting as well.
Thank you!

I know exactly what ur going through,i chose between sprint and cingular,i have never ever heard the no contrac thing before but totally believe it because paying full price for the phone would be right with no contract to cheapen it,the one year contract is ava over the phone or in store,i dont want to tell u wht to do but with unlocked hones just get the cheapest one there with the right plan of course and take out the SIM card,or a good phone,w/e,i've never had a dropped call bad experience or anyting, after i have barely gotten a new phone cus the old ones UI went screwy, they've been awesome, and i've gotten coverage where nobody else has as well,so i'm just giving u my opinion if u wanted it and if u have questions ask,i'lll try to answer to my best,i'm kind of obsessed so to speak

It all depends on coverage in your area, if Tmobile has great coverage and you need a ton of minutes, then by all means, go with it, but if cingular has a great coverage map in your area, go with them, now for plans
From my understanding for cingular you can have a no contract month to month payment, but if you were to get a phone it would be at retail price. You would more than likely have to do this through telesales IE Customer Service, now there's a one year, and you could get some cheap nokia or no phone at all, its up to you again if you wanted just an activation with a simcard and no phone you'd have to go through telesales, however, if you wanted a backup phone with your 1yr contract, I'd recommend going to an AR or Retail Store, you'll be treated with the utmost respect, as they make commission and can do a one year with the phone
For a 2yr, you get anywhere from 100 to 150 bucks off the retail price of the phone, because the profit from cingular far outways the cost of the discount. again if you were to do this, go to an Authorized Retailer or a Corporate Store.
The reason I have such high regard for reps, is I'm one myself, and I do everything I can for my customers. As a customer its nice to have a sales representative there in front of you. Most of the time, if you press them you can usually get a few bucks off on accessories, they'll throw em to you for next to nothing if you get a lot of features or multiple lines.
