I'm sad to say that we returned our VX9900's today for a couple of other phones. While we liked the concept of the phone, it has many weaknesses that made its value not worth its pricetag in our eyes. Not only could we not get our e-mail thru Outlook or Comcast to work with the phone, the phone has one glaring weakness... You can not lock the phone on the outside! You can numerically lock it from the inside, once you flip it open, but you can not lock it or unlock it when it's closed. The keypad lock is different. It will lock when set-up, but will deactivate when the phone is flipped open, even the smallest bit. When I used this phone with my leather pouch, the phone would flip open ever so slightly. If I hit the key pad just right... it would engage the phone or even speed dial someone leaving the phone "hanging." The folks at my local Verizon were scratching there heads and had no answers. They did say that this is a great point to bring up with there corporate office. The only holster that you can safely and use worry free with this phone, is the plastic one (Fugly) in the Verizon store that does NOT cover up the numerical keypad at all. I loved the concept and quality of the phone, but having my phone possibly call someone w/o my knowledge or consent, was the final straw.
Best of luck to everyone who has this phone. I loved the qwerty keypad and the camera took some awesome photos for a phone.
I now have the LG VX8600 and have had it for just a couple of days. It is a beautiful phone, takes very good pictures for not having a flash, and is obviously more compact than the enV. I actually like the flat keys and I have noticed NO difference if typing text or sending e-mails. battery life is very good, call quality is excellent, and my only complaint is that I wish that it had a dedicated jack for headphones without all of the adapter BS thru the power jack.
Overall, I like it a lot and it is a very sleek and dependable phone thus far.

I got my 9900 last week. I used bitpim to upload my ringtones, phonebook, calendar and photos by selecting the 8500.
To lock the front keypad, use the # key (just hold it for 2 seconds and it will lock it. Press ok to unlock. I have my on auto lock so after 30 seconds it will lock on its own.

I thought sound clarity was above average.

Speakerphone only works from the open position. Bummer. But overall sound quality and reception is great!

I love the sound quality. It's almost as good as my old NOKIA pre music, color, etc. phone.
Someone should make a car phone holder to hold it in the open position so you can see the larger screen. Know of any?
Also, so many places you call have a phone tree...push # for subject, etc. With Bluetooth, you can call the number but can not select extensions. I get around it by mounting the phone on the dash within arms reach for ext. #'s and Bluetooth the rest.

I guess I'm spoiled. I had a phone which when using the headset, would actually announce an incoming call. If I had the number in "my contacts", I would hear who was calling, not just some beeping in my ear. Does anyone know if this feature exists in the eNV? I have researched pretty as much documentation as I can, but none state whether or not a verbal announcement of incoming calls is possible.

Yes, there is a setting for the phone to "announce" the name of anyone calling you who is in your contact list. It can also ring only, or announce and ring.
