You can't use a cingular sim in a nextel phone. The technology is totally different.

if the technology is totally diffrent then why would they bother to ask for a special code, there must be some code to make it work with my sim card

I didn't even realize Nextel used sim cards.
You need to contact Nextel and request a "subsidy unlock code", which they should give you unless you are still under contract with them and the i870 is the phone under contract.

the i870 is an IDEN phone ... cingular is a GSM network. It doesn't matter what message you get with your sim ... there is NO way to use it on cingular.

i just recently dealt with this but i was going from tmobile to cingular. what you hav to do is call cingular and hassle them. i mean seriously hassle, they have a form they fill out and then you can recieve that code. i had a c300 and i just did it. dont let them tell you to call nextel because it's a lie. find a friend with a cingular account and get there last four digits of social then all you have to do is say thats you step brother'sister and tell them they can use that number instead the guy that helped me was really cool and even let me put him on hold to get my step sisters number so that i could get my c300 working. i love it and life is good.

you're telling people to hassle us? This is why we used to be able to hang up on customers.

Lol, isn't the cingular policy to get the unlock code 3 months after contract with a good standing account?

The bottom line is that iden (Nextel) phones do NOT work on the Cingular network. There is no reason to even persue unlocking it.
