The problem is that the VX8600 is not on the list of phones that I'm able to trade the 5300 for. I was told this by 3 people (including a "floor supervisor") on the phone today. I dread wasting my time at a VZ store unless I expect to have a good chance to get the 8600.
As I mentioned before, I offered to pay the difference to upgrade to the 8600, but I was told it's not possible. Maybe I'm not talking to the right people. I will try to refocus my mental energy and try again by calling tele-sales, where I bought the phone in the first place.

I called 611 and spoke to a supervisor and was shot down. Where else can I call to speak to a supervisor?
Thanks.

Chances of getting a brand new LG 8600 as a replacement for an LG 5300 are slim to none at best.. If it is replaced under the multi-replacement policy it will be for an equivalant phone, LG 8600 is just a "wee bit" up from the LG 5300.. More than likely it would be like an Moto V325.. LG 5300 is a "middle of the road" phone, your chances of getting a "higher end phone" as replacement is probably not going to happen.. Just curious, where didn't you use your upgrade for something different?
It is a fairly new phone, may come out as a "known issue" but takes time/consistant feedback for that to take place.. (That's one reason I never jump on the new releases, give it time for the bugs if any to be worked out! )

Texan,
I got it because it was almost as small as the VX3300 that I had been using and it has bluetooth. I don't need anything fancier than that. I have a brand new moto RAZR that I got for free, but I couldn't force myself to switch from the VX3200 at the time and instead waited for a small LG with bluetooth. I have 4 lines on my family share, so I can still upgrade a different phone if I have to. If I can't resolve the 5300 problem, I'll consider swapping it for a 3400 to use on another line and upgrade to the 8600 on that line when the price comes down a bit.
tampadelphian,
I've been getting shot down in my request to pay to upgrade to the 8600. So far I've had everyone tell me that I can only choose from phones at the same or lower original retail price. I'm actually on hold right now while a VZ tech rep is speaking to her supervisor about allowing me to get the 8600. She offered to check herself after I told her that I've tried several times already.
Ticked,
Are you saying your 5300 locks up when you're in Fair Lawn? I've also had it freeze in Paterson and Paramus.

roman,
Paying to upgrade to a different phone is normally not part of the options.. Tech support is the group that orders new phones under the multi-replacement program and they have a list of alternatives, always equal, comparable, etc. It is very difficult to get a sup to override in customer service as that is not the dept that does replacements, only upgrades which is not what a multi-replacement would fall under.. Anyway... good luck, repeat calling usually doesn't help under normal circumstances as it starts appearing to the rep (can tell how many times call on acct) different, ie trying to get something for free than what your intentions may be..

roman,
They will likely offer to replace with a Moto V325i, it has BT and is a good phone if your not looking for all the extra frills, similar in camera, etc to the LG 5300.
