To followup...
The tech rep I spoke to on Friday night never called me back to place the order for the 8600, but she had notated the account. I spoke to another tech rep on Sunday and this time she offered to swap out the 5300 for the 8600 at no charge to me. She offered to call a local VZ store and tell them to give me the 8600. I agreed and picked up the 8600 with minimal hassle at the store that day. The CS rep was a little confused at first and had to speak to his manager a few times to find out how to code the transaction, but it was never in doubt that I would get the 8600.
When I called the VZ reps, I never was pushy or obnoxious. I was just trying to troubleshoot the 5300 and explained why I wasn't interested in any other phones except for the 8600 and offered to pay the difference.
Ticked,
Another strange thing happened the day before I swapped out the 5300. The battery died completely. I was able to use another LG battery that I had from the 3300 with my 5300 and the original 5300 battery didn't work in either phone. I wonder if this may have been causing the freezing problems. I did get replacement batteries with some of my earlier phone replacements, so it wasn't the same battery that I had all along.
Dirish1s,
I think my original phone didn't start locking up right away and didn't do it as often at first. The last one I had did it withing the first day.

Ticked and Roman and all,
Get this. I'm in North Carolina, and I've had the same problem with my LG VX5300s ---
I am on my 3rd LG5300 for the freezing problem.
The first one - the only way to get it back working was to take out the battery - it wouldn't even power down.
The second one froze less often. Verizon updated the software in the store and said that should fix it. It made it happen less often, but it didn't fix it. I got up in the middle of the night a few days ago and the screen was lit up - all by itself. I know enough about microprocessors to know THAT ain't software.
I've had my third VX5300 for about three days. So far so good.
I think LG must have some quality control problems with this model. I mean, come on - two of us with two bad phones in a row? And add in Romans experience? What are the odds of THAT?
If the third one goes, I'm going to ask for a different model - maybe the VX8600, as suggested.

I am on my second LG5300 and am still having the freezing problem. As pointed out by others you never know when it is going to happen and you miss calls because you didn't know it was frozen. I also have a LG8300 and have never had this problem with it.

No more problems with my 5300....
The third one lasted 2 hrs and 24 min before it froze. Brought it back to the "authorizes Verizon retailer" and they told me that I had to bring it to a Verizon corp store......The corp store told me to bring it back to the store of purchase. Ommmmmmm serinity now Ommmmmmmm
K, blood pressure is back down. Called Verizon for help and low and behold "no problem Mr C we will be happy to help" while I was on hold they called the Verizon corp store and had them prep a new LG 8300 for me..
Picked up the phone and now I have no more LG 5300 problems.
Verizon has a 3 strikes in 90 days replacement policy on the LG 5300.
Forget talking to any store clerk and call Verizon directly.

My first LG5300 froze 12 days after receiving it. My wife was pregnant w/ twins [delivered new years day], and having the phone offline for 5 hours made my day.
VZW Direct dealer offered to upgrade the SW version to v3; I said new hardware first -- as they claimed they hadn't heard of 5300 freezing. [Having read this forum it's clear they are ignorant or lying -- dunno which; but neither is good.]
I spent many years developing products for HP and know a bit about computer crashes. I wasn't interested in running an "experiment" to find I had flaky hardware.
Turns out the replacement phone was v2 also (no kudos for that VZW), and the new phone froze today. So I'll go in and have them load v3 software on the phone. Their tech was clueless whether this new version was aimed at fixing the freeze. [BTW, download of SW takes about 30 minutes, plus customer queing time].
If this SW fix doesn't work, I'm going to burn a few ears at VZW.

Phone Model: LG VX5300

Also from Northwestern NJ and my new VX5300 hangs up and freezes as well. Every time it has been between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m.
I have to remove the battery and power up to get back service. This stinks BIG TIME!
I got mine through a national account, so I will be contacting them to see what can be done about it.
Can the software be update via a phone download (I'm doubting that)?
The software version listed is:
SW Ver TS3VZ03
Looks like a "version" 3, but not sure.
I only receive the phone on December 22. Someone tell me why I replaced my Audiovox CDM9000 for this problem...My CDM9000 is 7 years old and still worked well but was showing signs of age...

Ticked,
I am on phone #3, same make/model/provider. I wish I had seen your posts before getting this thing! I have the exact same issues as yourself. Mine locked at a certain point and would not allow incoming calls or messages. Also, my first one would go black when you dialed out, requiring battery removal to bring it back to life.
The whole mini-computer theory folks are throwing at you is crazy. First, I have computers that I rarely reboot and they work fine. Second, I have had many cell phones that I NEVER turned off....for months or years. Just constantly kept them charged and I have never had an issue even close to this. It is definitely related to this type of phone.
Obviously it is not ALL of them, as some folks have reported no issues, but for you and I, it is real, not flukey and is VERY ANNOYING! I just hope this one does it too so I can trade it on a completely different model.
