It is crazy. I never said I have never had a computer lock up. I am a computer programmer. I have seen many lockups, BSOD's and much, much more.
However, comparing their complex operating systems to those of a cell phone and suggesting a daily "reboot" of your cell phone is necessary is absurd.
Let's not forget, a calculator is a min-computer too. Do you have to reboot that or does it freeze too?

These phones (or at least a percentage of them) have a serious problem and should be recalled such that if you experience the problem you have the ability to get a different model instead of daily/weekly trips to the verizon store as I am doing right now!

I have bought two LG VX5300 on November 2006 and have experienced 'freeze-up' several times. There has been no consistent cause to make VX5300 frozen, I can think of. Once the phone freezes up, removing and restoring the battery is the only way to make phone reset. It seems to me that the problem may occur from some software problem (I am a software engineer). I am hesitant to exchange to another one because if the problem is what I am suspecting, all the phone will have the same problem. I have to have a cell and if exchanging won't solve the problem, I don't know what to do. Just reboot whenever the freeze occurs. But sometimes people call my office becasue they can't reach me through my cell, and I notice that my cell has been frozen, although generally I don't know how long it has been.

Thanks for the information. I am on my second LG VX5300 and I have had the software upgrade. My problem started in August. I am going to call Verizon and see if I can get a new 8600 also.

I just bought a lg 5300. I have read many forums about this issue of freezing. Now I noticed some folks talk about these being little computers. Something else i noticed on mine is that you can play gif files on them because the lighter fire gif is animated.

Considering someone that has this gif running a lot, it could cycle the processor a lot, causing overheating problems, I would speculate. so far, day 1, mine hasnt froze at all. I will keep you all informed of mine to see what happens.

Like a computer, the more things you run in the background, the slower it gets, and the more load is put on the processor/v-card. since these dont have v-cards, the processor is doing all the work. So regardless if the gifs are causing the issue, the theory still remains that the processor is overheating somehow(screen lite on always?), causing lockups, if software isn't the issue. Just a thought.

EDIT: I also noticed While talking for more than 5 min., the battery heats up a bit. Now, my vx4500 did that too but not after a short time of talking. Maybe the screen intensity is causing unnecessary heat on the chipset?

Thank you very much for the help. There is one more thing I may have discovered when freeze occurs. A couple of days ago, someone was calling me and at the very same time, I have pushed a button to see what time it was. The VX 5300 was frozen. It may be just a coincidence. I also have set all the lighting 'Always On'. If the processor overheat is the problem, I may have to buy another phone.
Again, thank you very much for good advices.

Lets get real here. The LG VX5300 is a piece of junk. We have 5 of them in my office and the all freeze up and wont take calls. I have to reboot it and pop the battery every morning when I unplug it from the charger. LG and Verizon should be ashamed for putting this thing on the street. Actually, it probably belongs on the street, under a tire.

I can't believe LG hasn't come out with a fix or a recall on this thing. For sure, it will be the last LG I ever buy. The company went into hiding on this one. No support. Don't tell me they haven't been swamped with complaints on this hunk of junk. They know it's bad and are ignoring the problem.

I'll have to agree on this. The local Verizon store says they have seen NO problems with the 5300. I find that hard to believe.

My phone's been doing the same thing. I am fixin to print this entire forum and take it down to the verizon store. this is terrible. I cannot believe nothing is being done to correct this problem. And here I thought it was just my phone, which is brand new, never dropped.

Still using first phone, their answer was, "Oh yeah, this is a known problem, we have to udate the software." They were very nice, but told me I should come back later cuz it takes 45 minutes to an hour to flash the phone. I asked him to repeat himself, he said the same thing. I asked him if he knew what the word FLASH meant. He finally 'got it' after explaining it to him for 2 minutes. Oh boy. this next trip down there should be fun!

"Upgraded" to the LG VX5300 in December 2006. It started locking-up almost any time I used it. Verizon sent me a new one, which worked fine for three weeks, then it too locked-up. Frustrated, I found this bulletin board. Seems like this is a known problem. Verizon is sending me a third phone and if that one locks-up they will move me to a new phone, of a lesser value (Great). I bought accesories which prohibit me from upgrading, otherwise those items are useless.

AVOID THIS PHONE. It is simply not wirth all of this hassle.
