Bought the LG 5300 from Verizon in Jan 2007. Worked like a charm until today. In fact, it worked so well I raved about it to others and suggested it to them. Then today it FROZE. The front display is stuck ON, the rest of the phone is dead as it can be. They are mailing me a new one, however, since reading this forum I plan on calling them back and trying for a different model.
I would suggest others avoid this model.

I've had problems with my LG 5300 too. Most of the time if I'm called, it doesn't ring. Often when I try to make a call, it freezes (inner screen goes blank, the outscreen shows the Verizon logo upside down). I got Verizon to send me a replacement phone and the same problems occur.
My wife has the exact same phone, so I had started to think the problem wasn't the phone, but something in Verizon's system. Seeing this thread makes me think otherwise. Guess I'll try to get a different phone.

I have had the 5300 since January with no problems until last week. The phone first started to randomly reboot and not connect calls and now when you hard reset it it brings up the Verizon Logo and does not go past that point. I just got off of the phone with Verizon who is sending my another phone within the next few days. I did mention this forum along with a couple of other sources I found online that referenced this same issue and the tech I talked to said they are not aware of any issues and if it was an issue they would have recalled the phone or offered upgrades to a different phone. Somehow I find that to be a lie but either way. If I encounter this problem again I am going to reference all the materials I have found and request a upgraded phone at no cost. Also I have written an email to LG on the problem and have an outstanding trouble ticket with them. I suggest anyone else with these problems do the same. Maybe if enough people complain to LG they will do something about it.
On a side note has anyone had success with recovering data from a lockup phone? I am thinking about buying a data cable to see if I can get the contact list off of it. There are allot of numbers that would take many months to recover. I asked the people at the verizon store if they could recover the data but they said if the phone does not boot up then you are out of luck. Verzion wants the existing phone back when I get the new one otherwise I would take the thing apart and try to pull the data out of memory.
if anyone has had any luck in pulling the data from a lockuped phone let me know.

Get BitPIM from sourceforge (bitpim dot sourceforge dot net). You can set up a bluetooth connection to a mac (most have it built-in) or a bluetooth-enabled PC.
I had to futz around with the settings and don't remember exactly how I got the connection, but on OSX it needs to create a custom port for your particular phone (the custom port is established on a per-phone basis; when my phone was replaced the old port didn't work and I had to create a new one).
Once that's set up you can download all your contacts/images without any wires.

I have this phone ( LG VX5300) and really am dissapointed with it. I set an alarm on my phone to wake me up in the morning, and it never went off because my phone froze at some point in the night. When i woke up my phone had the time that i knew could not possibly be right. My phone often freezes and i do not notice it. No one can get through to you, and it becomes a very big problem. I Dont know what to do with this phone either, but plan on visiting the store sometime today. It should not be necessary to "reboot" your cell phone. Anything you spend good money on should work efficiently enough where as you do not have to pull out the battery and restart it again.

Does anyone have the problem I am having and what should I do about it? When a VM comes in and I open the phone, it says."Listen Now".press OK.but this feature doesn't work.

There's a solution offered, and it works for me:
slashdownDOTwordpressDOTcom/2008/02/05/fixing-lg-vx5300-freezing-probl em/
This site does not allow new members to post URLs, so change DOT to "." in the above.

Have you asked for a battery replacement?
I know alot of people with phones that act up and sometimes it is caused by a bad battery.
A friend of mine had a VX5200 and it was freezing and doing crazy stuff.they gave her a new battery and the problems stopped.
Maybe that is the problem with yours.
