I recently bought a samsung v200 on o2 pay as you go and replaced the sim card with my old bt genie sim card. the phone works fine, but i am unable to send picture messages. i have contacted o2 online and they say i have to move to a new tariff at twice the price. Is there anyway i could activate media messaging without changing my tariff?

No, unfortunately there isn't. The sim card and account you have were created before MMS became a desired addition. I take it you are on the plan where you recieve 600 texts instead of 500?
It is O2's way of moving you off that tariff, where your MMS take 4 of your texts.
It might be worth considering using the sim card that was supplied with the phone to send MMS, or not bothering and just using the cable and software that you got with the phone.

i disagree...
my friend has a genie sim, and can use GPRS and MMS, coverage is good etc etc. You just have to edit your settings in the phones menu.
I know that this is for wrong phone, but the settings are all the same...
Get Settings
If you have an O2 X1, you will need to follow these instructions to manually enter the O2 Active settings into your handset.
Step 1 - CSD/GPRS WAP settings
Press Left Softkey (LSK) after entering each option
1. Use the Red 'End Call' key to clear any text
2. Menu (LSK)
3. O2 Active (LSK)
4. WAP Profiles (LSK)
5. Choose an Empty Gateway Profile ? Press OK and enter the following details:
6. Default: if it is the only profile ? this will be set
7. Homepage: wap.o2.co.uk (. = # key x2)
8. CSD:
• Username: o2wap
• Password: password
• Dial-up Number: +447712927927 (+ = * key x2)
• IP Address: 193.113.200.195 (Dots enter automatically)
• Data Type: ISDN - use Green 'Call' key to select and Red 'End Call' key to exit
• Data Speed: 9600 - use Green 'Call' key to select and Red 'End Call' key to exit
• Idle Timeout: 3 Minutes - as above
9. GPRS:
• Username: o2wap (Pay Monthly users) or payandgo uk (if you have to top-up your phone)
• Password: password
• APN: wap.o2.co.uk (enter this if you pay monthly) or payandgo.o2.co.uk (Pay & Go users) (. = # key x2)
• IP Address: 193.113.200.195 (Dots enter automatically)
• Bearer: GPRS Prefer
• Connect Mode: Continuously
• Security: Off (untick with green ?Call? key)
• Show Graphic: On
• Rename: o2wap
10. Then press continue to enter your Media Messaging settings:
Get Settings
If you have an O2 X1, you will need to follow these instructions to manually enter the O2 Active settings into your handset.
Step 2 - Media Messaging settings
1. Press the 'Menu' option, then 'Messages'.
2. Scroll to 'MMS' and press 'Ok'.
3. Scroll to 'Config' and press 'Ok'
4. Scroll to 'Connection' and press 'Ok
5. Highlight and select 'Active' and choose an empty profile.
6. Scroll to option 2 and choose 'edit'
7. Scroll to each of the following settings, enter as follows and press left soft key
• Setting Name: O2 MMS
• Server: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
• Gateway IP: 193.113.200.195
• APN: wap.o2.co.uk (enter this if you pay monthly) or payandgo.o2.co.uk (Pay & Go users)
• Login: o2wap / payandgo
• Password: password
8. Press the red (power on/off) key to exit back to the main menu once complete.
9. You now have all the settings you need in your handset to enjoy O2 Active and Media Messaging
this is available on the o2 site, but here you go!
