The following phones can't be unlocked by yourself via code for free:
Nokia 3250
Nokia 5200
Nokia 5300
Nokia 5500 Sport
Nokia 6125
Nokia 6126
Nokia 6131
Nokia 6151
Nokia 6233
Nokia 6234
Nokia 6270
Nokia 6280
Nokia 6630
Nokia 6680
Nokia 6681
Nokia 6682
Nokia 7370
Nokia E50
Nokia E60
Nokia E61
Nokia E62
Nokia E70
Nokia N70
Nokia N71
Nokia N72
Nokia N73
Nokia N80
Nokia N90
Nokia N91
Nokia N92
Nokia N93
They are all BB5 models.
There are three options available to unlock one of these phones:
1) you pay your provider for the unlocking code (or wait till the end of your contract (Pay as you go: normally 2 years). Only your provider is able to generate the unlock code. There is no software or website available to generate such code.
2) you know somebody at your provider who has access to the generator and can give you the code, but he/she surely wants money for it two.
3) when available, buy a BB5 unlocking box made by Dejan - but it hasn't been released yet, it's still in test phase. The box will be quite expensive (at least a 3 digit number, more likely a 4-5 digit number)

That software is available for free on bittorrent networks. However, I would like to unlock an N80, which isn't covered by that software. I'm wondering, doesn't flashing carrier-generic firmware onto a phone unlock it, so that it can be used on any carrier?

Flashing a Nokias firmware will NOT unlock it.

You could also ask t-mo to unlock your phone if you're planning to travel abroad and want to be able to use it no your trip. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink.
