Here's the scenario - I broke my phone, no upgrade available. One of 3 phone lines on my account was eligible, so I upgraded that line, swapped out sim cards. Easy enough, good to go.

Here's the question - my old sim is 64K, the new one is 3G. Phone number 555-1234 is associated with the 64K sim and 555-5678 is with the 3G. I want it to be the opposite so I can use the 3G in number 555-1234.

Can I do that without involving Cingular? If not, will Cingular do that for me?

I would call customer service to see if they can upgrade the 64K sim cards to 3G, so you all have 3G. What is the benefit of the 3G card?

Compatible for the next 4 years?
Better security?
More contacts?

If you update then all info on the old sim cards is lost. All of it.

3g sims cant work in non 3g phones, but 64k sims will work in 3g phones ,

Yeah, I've been confused by that too - so, do you NEED a 3G sim in a 3G phone - because I have a D807 and a 8700 and they both have the fireball 3G sim cards and they're obviously not 3G phones.

Yeah.
No issues at all. Although sometimes my sim entries fail to show up until I power cycle.

The 3G SIM works in my old Nokia 3120. No issues. Backwards compatible.

Who cares if all the info on the old SIM card is lost? As long as you copy the info from the SIM to the phone before you change to a 3G SIM, then copy from phone to the new SIM after it's activated then you're good to go. It only stores names and numbers. The new 3G SIM saves email addresses on it.

Nice tone there dude. You should work in telemarketing.

the thing is, A LOT of people CARE about their numbers, because most customers I speak to have their SIM AND their PHONE completely full of contacts, so, losing numbers is a big whopping deal to them.

There's a simple way around that, take it to a place that does backups, they're all over the place, they usually do unlocking too, so what if you have to pay 30 bucks for back up and restore to new phone, if you want the 3g thats one way to do it
