Hello,
I know this subject has been beaten to death, but most threads do not contain complete answers to what I need. So please forgive me for bringing it up again. I just tried to unlock my motorola v220 phone and got the "Flex Error: Phone Subsidy-Locked" greeting message when you first turn on the phone.
I have read and understood most instructions, here are things I did:
1) Flashed the phone to R364_G_OB.D1.32R (it was R365...) I got the files from motoaide.com - I used the one that doesn't have the word Cingular in front of it.
http://motoaide.com:8081/motorola/flash_flex/V220/R364_G_0B.D1.1FR_LP0 003_DRM0001_JPJAVA_G_0B_V220_01_05_50R_GCIV220DST01NA112_1FF.zip
2) I used FlashBackup 2006 by Random (nice GUI) - I have a backup incase there's problems. I think this program works fine.
3) It is impossible to find the PTS program with the MultiFlashFlex thingie, if someone have it can you please email it to me.
4) Then after flashing to R364, I ran both unlock methods, using P2Kman + chfaken unlocker, then the motorola_unlocker_2005, both yielded the same result as stated above.
5) The error msg is just in the greeting and you can delete it, but does that mean my phone is still locked?
6) I will be able to test it with a T-Mobile SIM card soon to see if it works. Currently it is a Cingular-lock.
7. I have another v220 phone which came already unlocked, it has the R364 flash but a different flex v. GSIV220CIN03NAOC8 than the one I tried to unlock, which has Flex v. GSIV220CIN03NA103.
8. I know the Flex version is just like an OS and doesn't affect the phone lock system, but which is the best Flex ver. to use?
Can anyone tell me what I'm missing, I read that "old_fool" can unlock it with "smart-clip" Does anyone have that or a link to it? Thank you in advance!!!

I removed the subsidy code from my motorola v220 phone using the content of this file : http://rapidshare.de/files/10907104/unlock_v220.zip.html
First put the motorola in flash mode (# + * +power on)
and conect it to the pc (detected as motorola flash interface with p2k driver)
Use Flashbackup to flash it with R365_g_0B.D2.23R_LP0002E.... (Motorola V220 Retail) http://avi-stuff.irde.to/download2.php?id=467&PHPSESSID=b99ae7d12a701a b30264add36cb9b77d
Then start up the phone en you'll get the insert Sim message then hook up your phone to the pc.
The pc will detect some devices (point to p2k.inf) And then run the motorola 2005 unlocker.
The display will go off.
Now insert any sim card and you're done. In stead of asking for the subsidy code, the phone will go searching for the mobile network.
I had succes and i kept the R365 firmware. Only negative thing is that my original language was gone (dutch). Now I use English. German is an option to as far as I can remember (and some Russian languages)

Thank-you very much Scorpion!
I will try your method when I get home, I hope it works for this phone.
I just tested the phone with the msg "Flex Error: Phone Subsidy-Locked" ---> by putting in another carrier's SIM and it says "check ur service provider" and it's just stuck there. So I guess the phone is worse off than just being locked.
I will update after trying your method.

flex error subsidy locked messahe is nothing to do with locked / unlocked - check the stickies in motorola talk forum
Check service provider means locked - leave it displaying that message and it will revert to enter subsidy code after a time

Hi Scorpion,
You said you removed the subsidy code by doing the normal flash then unlock method? I have just tried your method, flashed it with the retail version of v220 (which is pretty nice btw), then used unlocker_2005 to unlock, everything like you said went accordingly. But afterwards, it still says "Flex Error: Phone Subsidy-Locked" message.
Did you do something else with another program to remove the "subsidy"?
I guess the moderator is saying that fixing this will still keep the phone locked.
Does anyone have PTS MultiFlexFlash program? This program is widely used by people who post tutorials on unlocking. I guess you must flash to R364 to unlock then you can flash back to R365 for better user programs...
Thanks again!

We can't give you links to PST - classed as warez
Flex Error: Phone Subsidy-Locked" does not relate to whether or not the phone is locked
to remove that message:
Open up P2K Manager and search for file "secure_pds_init."
Delete it.
Go to Settings -> Personalize -> Greeting & delete the "Flex Error: Phone Subsidy-Locked" message.
Finally restart the phone.

Thanks Mikekay10,
That solves the annoying msg problem, but the phone is still locked right?
Can you tell me if the standard/best way to unlock the v220 is to flash to a R364, then use unlocker_2005 right?
Are there any other important details that I'm missing, because I've read the stickies and done this procedure a couple of times and it still gives the "Check with your Service Provider" message.
Thanks!

I don't have a v220 and have never unlocked one - so all I can tell you is there is a guide in the tutorial section - which is I assume what you are following: http://forums.mobiledia.com/topic39043.html

Yes, I have read that turtorial, I don't think my methods are wrong, I might be using the wrong R364 firmwares/flasher program.
I also have a v220 phone that's already unlocked, I checked the stats on it:
firmware: R364_G_OB.D1.32R
flex: GSIV220CIN03NAOC8 <-- Looks like it reads CINGULAR 2003
I guess I have to find a firmware exactly like this phone to unlock it.
The v220 I'm trying to unlock, using a R364 from motoaide.com, has:
firmware: R364_G_OB.D1.1FR
flex: GCIV220DST01NA112
Does anyone know exactly which firmware to use and or exact steps to unlock a Motorola V220 phone, I would really appreciated it.
Thanks!

No I just followed the steps in my previous post and my motorola V220 (originally simlocked by Orange) was unlocked because I put in an other sim card and the phone was searching for the network and got connected. When it's locked you'll get the enter Subsidy code.
The error message you describe is i guess related to a locked phone (when entering a wrong subsidy code)
