Everywhere I read says you can only add a memory card with up to 2 GB of space for this phone. But what really happens if you add, say, a 4 GB memory card? Does the phone stop working?

Also, are there any places I can buy a white keypad for this phone? The prices on eBay are exorbitant, to say the least.

I called Sony Ericsson, they told me that the w810i can support up to 4gb.
I haven't tried yet.

I have a 4GB Sandisk Ultra II Pro Duo that I took from my PSP to test on my W810i. It worked flawlessly, though it did take it several seconds to read the disk. This wasn't too bad, considering I had two movies, a game, and all 4GB of disk space used. The music was read and played perfectly though!

I'm just so unsure...because on the SE website it says only 2gb, but I've read lots of forums that say 4gb. And I don't want to spend all that money if it's not even going to work!

Also, quick question -- how do you install themes on this phone? Do you put them on your memory stick, or go on the internet (on the phone)?

with my old s710a you could download them to the phone directly or the memory card

tessaxoxo, I am currently listen to music on my 4gb sandisk card as I write this! No issues.

I had the same concern as you, but saw on several discussion sites that many people have been successfully using 4gb cards in their w810s. I figured at worst, I'd have to return the memory card - no big deal.

According to one of the discussion sites I visited, the confussion stems from the fact that at the time the w810 was released, 2gb was the largest sized memory stick duo card available.

Also the 4gb cards aren't that expensive anymore. I just bought one at circuit city this past weekend. As long as you send in the mail-in rebate, it will only set you back $80 plus tax. Compare that to $800 for the 8gb card.

A 4gig card should work. My current carrier, Rogers Wireless, has a special promotion going on where if you buy a Sony Ericsson W810i, you get a free 4gig card. I'm just waiting for that card to arrive, but I have no doubts it will work.

ive been wondering about this also. I have the exact same stick (sandisk ultra 2 4gb) and it does work....one problem ive been noticing though is the phone can't always see all the files i have available on my stick, and i have to go in and out of menus and such for it to work.

I have been wondering if this is a result of using an unsupported stick, or is this just a problem with the phone?

I would have thought that if it was just that 2gb was the biggest when the phone came out, and not that the phone doesn't suport the 4g sticks, then that SE would have just updated their site when the bigger sticks came out...

btw - im also on rogers and they are indeed now giving away free 4g sticks with the phone (but not the high speedversions).
