Hello all,
I would like to change the name on a Cingular account from a family member's to mine. We have had service for approximately 16 months, and are currently out of contract.
When I called Cingular to ask about this, they insisted that I would be charged $18 (which I am fine with... I understand that they must run a credit check) but also that the account would be placed under a one-year contract. I find this ridiculous, especially since I am pleased with Cingular's service and obviously wish to continue being a customer.
Could someone please verify that the contract extension is required and, if so, are there any ways to get around it? Thanks in advance.

yeah I ran into this problem all the time they always want to make a contract even when they don't send out equipment etc. but yeah can do the 1 year vs. 2 year which they will probably try to do.

Thanks for your responses.
I signed up for this cell phone through a university program which has since been discontinued (for new activations, I believe) but my plan has remained unchanged. I'm on the Nation 450 Rollover 5000NW UnlimitedM2M at the normal $39.99 cost, but the plan includes a promotional 1MB data, 250 text, and 50 MMS per month at no charge. Could I risk losing the (decent!) add-ons if I pursue the name change and the 11-mo. extension?
Thanks again!

You shouldn't, we should be able to honor your plan as is, I know for migrations, the ATT plans remain, plus we add an extra 100 min.
