Okay, so the most ridiculous thing happened at work today:
An official mandate came down that we could not have any "Christmas" decorations. (I assume they would also be taking down Hanukkah decorations, if there were any)
Now, I cannot do it here, (because, ironically, it is blocked) but I am going to research the First Amendment rights for employees, just to see if I have any valid grounds for my outrage.
But seriously, come the f- on. What's next? Banning cross pendants? What if someone has a religious tattoo? Will they be forced to wear long sleeves?
What are all of your thoughts on this?

well, I guess it depends how others feel about it, i guess.
every year, us nova scotians send a big tree to boston for their annual tree lighting. I believe it's a thank-you for help during the halifax explosion. last year boston decided to call it a "holiday tree" instead of the usual "christmas tree."
amid much outrage and protest, the leaders of boston are again calling it a "christmas tree."

The problem is this: One person was offended. One.
She is Muslim (which I have no feelings for, good or ill.), and wears traditional Muslim clothing (well... not the full face covernig Burkha (sp?), but a head wrap, etc.). My company bends the dress code rules so that she can wear all that. But I can't have a Christian representation of a holiday I celebrate?

Bob Kearns, president of the Loma Linda Homeowners Association in Pagosa Springs, has threatened to fine resident Linda Jensen $25 a day for each day she keeps her Christmas wreath on display. His objection? It has a peace sign in the middle of it, made of seasonal greenery. Kearns said that “some residents” also believe the pace symbol was a symbol of ... Satan. (No word on who those people are, exactly.)
According to Kearns, the people who complained have children serving in Iraq.
Jensen said she was thinking more along the lines of “Peace on Earth; good will toward men” when she hung the wreath, which she said was more a spiritual statement than a political one.
Jensen, a past association president, has called Kearns’ bluff. She has vowed neither to remove her wreath until after Christmas nor pay the $1,000 fine.
Kearns ordered the five-member homeowner’s association committee to force Jensen to remove the wreath, but they refused after deciding it was just a seasonal symbol. Kearns fired the entire committee.
(What was that old saying about what happens when you “give a little man a little power?”)
The media attention prompted the homeowners’ association to back down Monday, but in any case, we’re pretty sure that Jensen would have prevailed under uathority of another document that supercedes any homeowners’ association covenant: The Bill of Rights.
To Mr. Kearns, we say, “Peace.”

I read that on CNN. Brilliant.
By the way, the Peace sign was made in England during the 60s. It is the combination of the semaphore signs for "N" and "D." ND stands for Nuclear (or Nuculer, for the Prez) Disarmament.

Didn't know that! Interessting fact.
All we've got here at home is one tiny light set. We're not that much into christmas.

Have you seen the video on YouTube of the German kid trying to play Unreal Tournament?
Ridiculous.

Well - it's like this, I have a friend who got me a great job at a place I no longer work out - he used to work for an insurance company - he is a Wiccian and used to wear the pentacle as a pin, he was told to remove it because it 'offended' other people, and he said sure, as long as everyone who was wearing a cross would have to remove theirs - and that was the end of that.

I joked about it.
My company would rather ban EVERYTHING than nothing. So if that situation happened, they'd probably send that guy around with a box to collect the crosses.
