So I drop my old audiovox cdm 8900 phone yesterday and its now pushing up cellular equipment daisies (dead). I think--hey how 'bout a 700w treo to replace it. Vzw web site shows $499-$100 online discount + $150 mail in rebate so it should net out at $249.
I ask the online chat person why the upgrade price for me (I have had the phone for 2.5 years) is $499--period? She tells me that the promotions price (for joe off the street) is better than my price because they were a new customer. I then call cs and they tell me actually the new customer promo price is $299 so I'm like great send me one at that price and demonstrate that you'd like for me to spend another 5 years with Vzw? She says I can't have that but can have the $399 - $100 online discount + $150 mail in rebate--the only problem is that the site won't let me order--its only available with a new plan.
Does anyone have the straight scoop because I couldn't get a straight answer. If they hose me around I am going to take the acct and port the number to another provider and drag my whole family and data card plan with it.

Is your contract within 2 years of running out? If so, contact telesales at 800 256 4646. If not, call online equipment order site at 877 483 3010 and speak to a rep. Either one should be able to take care of you.

Okay thanks for the response and follow up. the chat reps and cs rep were nice but were probably every bit as confused as I was. I would probably opt for a root canal before I go back into a bricks and mortar store--not thier problem but when you are standing behind someone who doesn't understand ANY of the aspects of calling plans, roaming, cdma, gsm, tri mode, pcs etc.. it takes valuable time to get waited on let alone get out of there.
Thanks again

Oh yeah the other thing was I switched my cell phone from employer paid to me paying it May this year and the cs rep told me I had upgraded the ohne then which I had to go to great lengths to convince her otherwise.

If you're not very very experienced then this is easy to miss, so I'm not all that surprised.

yeah the transfer of liability makes it look like you have had your phone for less time than you really have. I would advise you to just come into a Direct store and we would be able to service you a little better on the spot.
