Thanks to posters on this forum I figured out that I could use Bluetooth on my iBookG4 to sync with my 8500. I'd had no luck getting BitPim to rcognize my phone with the VZW data cable.
So now I have a copy of all my phone contents on my desktop and I said, "Aha! Now I can delete those duplicate mp3 files my Mac creates when I drag them onto the SD card."
Not so fast! I deleted the non-playable "._" mp3 files on the desktop and then sent data, set to replace the files on the sd card, to the phone. Bluetooth was open and functioning.
Unfortunately, the duplicate files are still on the card!
Anyone with experience in this, please help!

I have a iMac, how did you get bluetooth to send files to your phone?

PLOStyle-
I confess it was somewhat confusing and I can't tell you the exact order in which I did things, but basically, you follow your computer's instructions for turning on bluetooth and configuring a new device, and then turn on your phone and follow the directions for adding a new device.
If this doesn't help let me know and I'll try to be more precise (will have to do it over again to figure out the steps!)
I'm working with a Mac.

That's a great visual representation of how to use bluetooth to connect the 8500 with BitPim.
I have been successfully backing up my phone's data plus adding ringtones and making playlists, via bluetooth. Couldn't get the cable to connect, so bluetooth was a godsend.
I use my Mac and a card reader for transferring music, pix and flix. The music on the card shows up in BitpPim but the pix and flix do not, for some reason - there's only a green blotchy icon to represent them in BitPim; however, the pictures already loaded into the phone's memory show up just fine in BitPim.
The problem I continue to have is with the duplicate music files created when transferring the files (via card reader) from the Mac->card->phone. The dup files begin with "._".
I tried to delete these dup files with BitPim by accessing the "my music" files and deleting them, but when the data is sent back to the phone the duplicate files are still there. I also tried to delete them from BitPim's FileSystem directory, but no luck.
Other posters on this and other forums have suggested using Terminal to remove these duplicate files (which are, by the way, unplayable and freeze the phone, and thus prevent you from using the Shuffle feature to play any contents on the card, except within playlists). I have been unsuccessful in using Terminal, even after using the tutorials in my Missing Manuals OSX book, plus following instructions from other posters.
AAAACk! Maybe there's just no answer until/unless VZW and LG figure out that they need to do a software update!!!!!!
If anyone has any other suggestions, I'll welcome them.
Oh, and just a note for anyone working on this - always, always access "MyMusic" and let the phone initialize all your music files whenever you turn off your phone and turn it back on. BitPim will not recognize the music on the card otherwise.

The only way to get rid of "resource fork" files for good is to connect your memory card and the card reader to a Windows PC and delete them from there. Asking OS9/X to not create resource fork files is like asking a fish not to swim. OS9/X makes it so that these files are invisible to the naked eye, when in Mac OS. But once a file/folder is moved over to a non-MacOS system, these files show up.

This is only true for LG's, as far as I can tell. I used a Samsung a960 for the past year, prior to getting the Chocolate, and there were no duplicate files.
This is an LG programming problem.

Ok, I too have a Mac and am trying to use bluetooth and bitpim to get custom ringtones. I've looked at the link mentioned before (the one with the images) and it doesn't seem to detect my phone? Why is that?
I've tried mnay times and all the different bluetooth ports too!
Is it because I'm not using verizon? I have Telus (Canadian service provider). If anyone knows how to get it with a Telus phone, I would really appreciate it!

Something you may not realize until you read the manual, Telus has blocked File Transfer through BLuetooth, so unless someone comes up with a hack around this, you are out of luck.
