Hello, I just bought a sidekick II off of Ebay. When I received it, I powered it on (w/ and w/o sim card) and it keeps asking for a 3 digit personal security code. I called tmobile and they said they couldn't do anything because I didn't buy the phone through them. I contacted the seller and they said it was 190. That didn't work so I emailed back and she told me to try 002 and 003....none of which work. I have tried soft & hard resets yet it is still asking me for this code. I can't do anything on the phone at this point....not event make a phone call!

Help!!!!

Are you using a tmobile sim? And if you are is it asking for a privacy code? If you are not using a tmobile sim, the phone is locked and can not be used. If you are using a tmobile sim, try doing a hard reset. Open the screen only halfway and in the metal strip there is a very small hole on the right side. Use a paperclip to push that button down and hit the power button at the same time. Let me know how that works.

Okay, I went to a tmobile store yesterday and they said there is absolutley nothing you can do without the 3 digit number (I am also a tmobile user). If the person who set the code loses it, there is a security answer they can give tmobile which would reset it (the security question/answer is set up when you register the sidekick). The ebay seller gave me her phone number but of course I couldn't reach her when I needed to. She gave me about 5 or 6 different codes to try. Finally the last code worked (several days later....).

By the way, I did do a hard reset several times. I also did a soft reset a few times as well. Neither of this will bypass the personal security code. You have to have the acutal code in order to do anything. So, to other ebayers out there who have gone throught the same trouble I have....if the seller is not responsive or "doesn't know" the code, you cannot do anything with the phone and basically wasted over a $100 bucks on something you will have absolutley no use for.

I looked all over the web for an answer to this question and sadly, couldn't find it anywhere. I hope this helps somone else in the future.
Thank you,

1. Get to the screen where you would normally type in the 3-digit privacy lock code

2. Hold key-menu.gif + key-jump.gif to get to the Emergency Phone Call screen

3. Hold key-jump.gif + + s which takes you to the SYSLOG screen

4. From there press key-done.gif, key-jump.gif, or key-cancel.gif and you're in!

An ota fixed that hack so it no longer works.

I don't understand how to do step 3
. Hold key-jump.gif + + s which takes you to the SYSLOG screen
What is + + s and how to inter that. Could you explain it?

That doesn't work anymore. Danger issues an ota to fix all that. Plus you can no longer access the syslog. Don't worry about it.

Sorry, but that was a confirmed workaround by danger and one point and the a confirmed fix by one of the 2.0 ota's. The only way it would still be working is if you are not running on the latest ota.
