My 1-1/2 year old V3 that I love stopped being able to place calls. It is not the Cingular network since I can put my SIM in an old phone and make calls. Also, my wife is having no problems with her V3. I got a new SIM card and same problem.
I'm fairly sure it is an international phone since I bought it from a web store.
I spent a while on the phone with Cingular until they finally suggested I go to a Cingular store and get the new SIM card. I also tried putting my wife's SIM in my V3 and it still doesn't work, so I'm sure it is phone specific.
As far as I know, the phone has never been taken a hit. Anyone experiencing the same problem? Is there a fix?

Most likely the antenna is loose - its in the lower half of the phone - see http://www.motomodders.net/Portals/0/UserFiles/User86112/Motorola_v3_D isassembly_Guide_v1.1.pdf

I forgot to say that I am still getting 4 to 5 bar signal strength. Also, strangely, I still receive voice mail notifications. That makes me think it is software, but I've never done anything to the software or phone settings, just MPT syncs. Do you still think it is the antenna?

I might try reflashing using a program called Multi Flash flex, its bundled with Motorola Product Support tool, its warez so I can't give a link, you can get the flash file here: motomodders.net

I had a similar experience with my old razr v3 m, i took the sim out anr placed it back in again, it worked ok for a little more longer then happened again. Spoke to serveice provider who sent me a replacement, consider this option if all other info here does not solve the issue

Thank you to mikekay10! Following your advice on the loose antenna, I disassembled the bottom part of my V3 with the antenna (after receiving the tools I ordered), cleaned out the lint, and reassembled it. The antenna did not seem loose as I took it apart, but after putting it back together, it now works flawlessly! Perhaps, it was simply the cleaning, but, no matter, it works!

The antenna is the gold coloured piece of wire shown in step 37, at the bottom of the phone
