I just got the LG240 & all the software from the package & my memory card is installed properly. But everytime I try to connect the USB cable to the cell phone, I'm prompted by the add new hardware device wizard to search for new drivers for: USB Device. I follow the recommended option but it NEVER works. Very frustrating. Essentially it says windows was unable to locate a driver for this device. I"ve tried browsing but it never gives me any options. I've even followed a previous post from liltiger62 about putting MP3's onto the phone, but that didn't help. I just want to add some music to my phone. I can sync up my calendar to the phone OK, pictures seem to be OK but nothing when it comes to music & Mass Storage.

Any help out there? I'm running on windows 98
thx
Erin

Plug in the phone with the usb cable and press menu 9 7 4. The phone will now act as a mass storage device. You can access the memory card with explorer or windows media player. You can offload pictures and video this way too but you have to first move them from the phone to the memory card.

Hope this helps

I feel your pain. OH, do I feel your pain. I just got the 8300 and am on day 11 of my 15 day trial period. I was going to return the thing and bail out on the whole deal if I didn't get this resolved today - but I did! And I didn't even have to calll Verizon (if you've ever had to do that, you know why that's a big deal) - Anyway, for you - or anyone else with this issue - here's what you need to do:

1) Make SURE you have sp2 installed. I was SURE I had it (I remember downloading and installing it) so I ignored this step until I was desperate. Do this:

Right click on My Computer
Click on Properties

If you do not see the words Service Pack 2 under the "system" list - you don't have it, or it didn't install correctly. Reinstall it.

2) Open Device Manager (Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager) - Keep it open and watch it closely while you do the following:

Plug your phone in with the USB cable (I had already installed wmp10 and the LG drivers from the Verizon Music Essentials Kit)

Keep an eye on the Device Manager and when you see the "Vcast mobile phone" device pop up on the list with a yellow "?" next to it - double click it. You will have to do this FAST as it will disappear quickly after it can't recognize it.

When you have it open it will likely say something about it not being connected or the drivers not working. Click the "update drivers" box and follow the prompts. Make sure you check the option to check the web for updates and don't tell it to check a specific drive or cd location (use the "recommended" one - I forgot the exact wording there)

Magically, mine found and downloaded a new MTP driver and voila! When I opened wmp10 it (finally) found the device. However, my troubles didn't end there:

3) I still couldn't sync songs from wmp 10 to my phone - I did some digging and found this on microsoft's support site:

I'm new to the forum and couldn't post the URL - I found it on microsoft's website - support - knowledge base - then pick "windows media player 10" it should be the first item that shows up on the list and I think the fix involved is kb884373

Click on the "Dowload the WindowsMedia10........" link.

After I downloaded and installed that - I was in business....FINALLY. I successfully transferred songs to my phone after that. Phew!

This type of thing is precisely why I hate the Windows Operating system (my dh insists on pc's - I hate them with a passion and only use Mac's - except that Verizon doesn't have a Mac version of the Music Essential Kit.) - My two cents

I really really really really really hope these steps help you - or someone out there as it took me an entire day to resolve this.

Good luck!

Same problem here - here is what I did to fix the prob.

1. You need to download wins media player 10 (it has the required drivers needed) that will top the repeated request to reinstall hardware.

2. The only way I have found to get mp3 files from my computer to the phone is via the sd card - SHUT YOUR PHONE OFF BEFORE REMOVEING THE BATTERY AND SD CARD. So provided you have an sd card reader (they're 15$ or less), transfer your mp3 files via windows explorer to your phone sd card and then pop the sd card back into the phone.

we have done everything that moosek has said and when we try to update our driver it did not find the new MTP driver that he found, it said that the device was not working correctly since windows coould not find the correct driver.

any suggestions on how to find this driver again?

Dustin - did you download wins media player 10? As I mentioned in the post above - it has the drivers required.
