I have been a Verizon customer for about 6 years. I recently read about the new "Annual Upgrade" implementation, which I was excited about because I've been looking to upgrade to a Blackberry from my RAZR. From everything I had understood, I would get the new Blackberry at the 2-year service agreement price, which was $349.99 less $150 in mail-in rebates, or $199.99. However, once I went to the store, they informed me that I didn't qualify for $100 of the $150 in mail-in rebates because I wasn't a new customer. So the actual final price was going to be $299.99 PLUS a $20 transaction fee.
From a business stance, this makes NO sense. I have 10 months left until I get my "New Every Two" upgrade, and by upgrading to the BB, I would be spending $20 extra a month, which adds up to $200 extra dollars for Verizon over the next 10 months. However, by declining to offer me the $100 mail-in rebate, I will not upgrade at this time and they will lose out on that extra revenue. And then, once I upgrade using the New Every Two, they'll lose the $100 upgrade discount that is offered thru that plan.
BEWARE: Don't take the display price in the store (or online) as the price you'll pay for your annual upgrade. You may not qualify for certain discounts/rebates that they instead give to new customers... apparently, us "loyal" customers are worthy of such discounts.
If it weren't for Verizon's service, I would've left a LONG LONG LONG time ago!

EVERY wireless carrier has these policies not just Verizon. Please do research and know exactly what you are talking about before you go to the store and then ask questions while you are there so you understand everything when you leave. Just because you didnt get what you wanted doesnt mean you have to come on here and starting bashing the company. | I have been doing research on a new phone for 6 weeks. I was told by one store and one telephone customer service rep that I could get the $199.99 price, but then by a separate store rep and separate telephone rep that it would actually be $299.99. I was more sending out a warning that the program isn't what it seems to be on the surface so that people wouldn't be fooled. Also, I was frustrated with the inconsistencies I got from different reps. I think because the program is somewhat new, the customer service people haven't been adequately informed, and that led to extremely mixed messages in this case.
And to have to spend $100 more for a phone that a new customer can get for free, when I've been a customer for 6 years, doesn't make sense... be it Verizon, Cingular, or whoever.

Yeah, it won't let me. You can only do the "New Every Two" online, apparently, not the new annual upgrade.

I've called customer service about 3 times. This last time was when I finally got the confirmation that I'd have to pay $299.99 for the phone.
Do you have a direct extension that I could use instead??

An early upgrade does not include the New Every 2... If you choose to upgrade early you get 2 yr price on the phone.. The $150.00 rebate is if new customer or eligible for the NE2 discount, the acturl mail in rebate is $50.00 therefore if elig for NE2 you can deduct $100 ne2 and $50.00 for rebate.. Early upgrade never includes the ne2 discount. (Well except during the holidays, if one was eligible for their ne2 by end of January they could..
