I'm more than disappointed with this phone's music feature. I recently upgraded from a very old LG and am wondering... Are they all this much of a disaster when it comes to actually listening to the music on the phone?
To be fair, getting music on the phone was a snap. I bought a 1gig micro sd card for about $25 shipped from newegg. Formatted the card in the phone, put the card into a usb sandisk reader, and dumped about 900mb of music onto it in a few min. The phone recognized all the music and sorted the files according to their ID3 Tags. Overall, a very slick and easy process. But then it came time to actually listen to the music. Nightmare.
Yes, it comes with an adapter to plug a headset into, but the adapter accommodates a 2.5mm plug; something that is commonly used for wired headsets you talk into. I own quality headphones and earphones and those plugs are 3.5mm. So to listen to music on the "music phone," I have to plug in the included adapter that enables me to plug in ANOTHER (purchased) adapter that allows me to finally plug in my headphones. By the time I have headphones plugged in, I have a 3 inch parasite sticking perpendicular to the side of the phone. Putting the contraption into my pocket is not even possible, and I'd expect something to break along the adapter-chain if I did pocket it. Thank god I have an ipod because it seems to me these music phones are not nearly ready for primetime.
A trip to radio shack, best buy, circuit city, and verizon all proved that none of them have any idea what they are selling, and almost all confessed that they do not use the music features on their phones because it is such a pain to get them to actually be functional. Not one of those retailers had any solution or adapter for me. They basically told me I was S.O.L. and that they don't carry anything to enable customers to plug in their own stereo headphones. Not surprisingly, these companies all push the music phones during the sale, and then hide in the corner when you actually confront them on using the phones.
Does anyone have any real success stories with making their music phones convenient and a pleasure to use? I've seen 2.5mm earphones, but they are all garbage in terms of sound quality. I'm considering a bluetooth earphone, but have heard bt stereo headsets are poor sound quality and a pain to use.

The headphones that comes with the Music Essentials kit uses the same plug as the battery charger and sounds pretty good. I usually hate "ear bud" type phones but the ones n the kit seem pretty good and don't sound half bad. I've seen stereo headsets available on Verizon's site that use the smaller plug as well - did you try there?

ImagoX - I think Coder is looking for an adapter that is smaller than the included plug so he can user his own headphones, not buy a pair from verizon.
Coder - Where did you find the 2.5-3.5 adapter? The one I bought at radioshack was only a two prong plug so I only got audio in my right headphone. Where did you find a three prong adapter?
I also feel that the "Music phones" are misleading in their advertising. They are really just "phones that have the ability to play music, but not as good as your iPod". I love my VX8600 but it will not fully replace my iPod. Maybe in a few years the phone companies will finally have the perfect phone/music player, but for now i'm content with this one.

I spoke with a guy from Verizon and he said phone manuf have no intention of moving to the 3.5mm plug, or even adding it. He said 2.5mm has been the standard for phones ever since they started making them, blah blah blah. I'm hoping someone eventually makes a 3.5mm adapter for the charging port so that I don't have to use the included 2.5mm one. Some aftermarket company has to make one eventually.
I ended up finding a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter at bestbuy, but will likely return it and get this: http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/accessoryPopup?item=accessory Mart&accessoryId=24299 from verizon. Not an ideal solution. In fact, I'm loving my ipod more than ever now
Although the vx8600 isn't my new main mp3 player, it's become a terrific GPS solution. If you haven't tried the VZ Navigator tool, I highly recommend it. It's unbelievable how well it works.

I have the VX8600 and the same problem. I ended up buying an adapter for my adapter at best buy. It's difficult to fit into my pocket, and sometimes the sound quality gets shoddy, but it works most of the time. I bought the music essentials kit from verizon, but the headphones it came with are way too big to fit into my ears.
Maybe if there's enough demand, LG will just make a phone-3.5 adapter. I hope so atleast. I don't get why they couldn't have just put a 3.5 adapter in with the phone. Nobody uses wired headsets anyway, it's all bluetooth.
My friend has a set of bluetooth headphones and he says they work pretty well. I'm not too sure about sound quality though.

I bought and returned that same adapter from bestbuy. I've given up on the music portion of the phone for the time being. That phone seems mainstream enough that I expect the demand will entice some company to make a direct adapter for 3.5mm headphones. So I'm just gonna wait it out
Cheers!

I use the music section of my 8600 for listening to books on the phone speaker. I start the book and clamshell it on my shirt. It stops if there is a call, and resumes when the call is over. I can search back or forward if necessary using the touch controls on the face of the phone.
The really good part about all of that is, I don't lay it down anywhere, and it keeps me entertained (a moral imperative).

Oh thank goodness! I was cracking up over coder's first post. (I'm not known for my compassion.)
and now there's a happy ending.
What about those pricey pricey bluetooth earbuds with isolation sound. those oughtta work nicely. Anyone have any experience there?

Jeez, ya bought a PHONE not an IPOD!!
What your whining about is just like going to a motorcycle dealer and buying a crotchrocket, then complaining that the dealer didn't tell you you couldn't use the crotchrocket as a dirtbike.
THEY AREN'T THE SAME ! Is it that hard to understand?
The music feature isn't made to be top of the line music listening equipment.
