GPS - Global positioning System ( uses satellites )
GSM - Global System for Mobile Communications ( uses towers/radio wave)
only a satellite phone can truly have GPS the companies that "claim" to have it have no roaming agreements so they can "triangulate" you signal by what tower you last registered on geting an aprox 2 mile radious of where you are. cingular does not have and "GPS" compatable equipment

the hp 6515 phone has navigation and i think it's gps from what people who have it have told me. (yeah just looked some models of that phone do have gps enabled) but it's a big phone pretty good sized I always duck when the guy at my work walks by looks like he's carrying a freaking gun on his waist..

Russ: So when you want an adhesive strip, do you ask for one like that, or do you say "Give me a Band-aid"?
Okay, so technically the service is called LBS, Location Based Service, but it is easier to call it (and more people know what you mean) GPS.
And yes, while it is an 'Approximate location,' it is accurate to about 10-20 feet. (For example, I was coming up to a stop light, and the map had about 15 feet of 'road' left before the turn. As soon as I turned, however, it was back to normal.)
