I need help, I know a woman that is getting out of a abusive marriage.
With her will be ex-husband they have Verizon family plan.
Out of spite and to keep "control" the will be ex-husband locked out his wife and three kids out of the plan. He suspended their phones so he will not get the termination fee if the wife was able to get the online account first and terminate her and the 3 kids phone. She would stayed with Verizon and just open a new family plan under her name and with the all their phones.
But that wasn't the case the will be ex-husband got to the online account first and changed all the password.
So this woman's phone and her three kids phones are suspended, she tried getting Verizon to release the phones, but they will not do it because she not the "person" that suspended the account. The main account holder is under the will be ex-husband's name.

The real problem is they are willing to start over with a new account and new phones except for one, the son bought a Razr phone so obviously they don't want to drop that phone.

Based on my reading the Razr is a CDMA phone so it's not technically "lock" since it shouldn't have SIM card. So how does he get Verizon to just switch is his phone over to a new account (still using Verizon, just a different person paying the bill)??? They would even pay the termination fee, but since the wife is not the main account holder Verizon won't let her do it.

PLEASE if anyone can offer any help, these phones are this woman's and her kids life line.

sorry...but she's sort of out of luck. The account is in his name, I assume, so our hands are tied unless he grows a heart.

Thanks for the reply. I was afraid that would be the answer.

That won't happen in this life time.

Ironic thing is Verizon I saw on the website has a thing for giving phones to victims of domestic abuse, but if it happens in their own system they can do nothing about it. Yea that is brillant thinking on their part, not including something like that for within their own company.

Thanks again tampadelphian for the reply the above statement was not directed towards you it was just a general observation of this whole thing, it just bites.

Look at it from a common-sense perspective. We (as in VZW) don't have the perspective, nor the luxury, of deciding not to give someone business because they've been abusing their spouse. That would be like giving a car to an abused spouse without settling it in court. Sure, it's the moral thing to do, but it's not the legal thing to do.

Now...with that being said---once a legal settlement has been reached, she might very well be able to get the phones. But not until it's decided in the courts.

If and it sounds like a big if, he will due an assumption of liability of her 3 lines and taken out of his name, new account in her name, same ph #'s, phones, etc.. It will work and be to his benefit as he would not have the Early Term Fee on all 3 lines... (This can be done on the phone w/cust service) If he won't do that (stupid on his part, I might add due to the fees!) there is nothing she can do..

If he is that big of a jerk, I might just go ahead and open a new account and leave him hanging with the ETF's on 3 phones, approx $525.00!! If she opens a new account she should get a really decent price on a Razr right now!

He cannot leave them suspended forever.. evidently he has to do something, disconnect and pay the ETF or wait out the contract and continue paying the monthly charges...one or the other..

Ok Littleme,

She could open her own account, right now on the website, she can get 1 Moto Razr $49.99 after online discount and 3 LG 5300's for free for her other lines.. 4 phones, $49.99 total. (And stick him with the ETF's, ok just kidding, maybe?!?!)

Thanks Texan for all the ideas and suggestions. She even bought in her Order of Protection to VZW that stated he cannot lock out the phones, VZW still said we cannot help you.
It looks like she might have to open her own account.

FYI, even if the phones are suspended, 911 can still be called. I know, that's small consolation, but consolation nonetheless.
