i'm interested in getting a smartphone with email functionalities. i don't need all the flashy stuff for business and what not. just something that i can email, text, organize (to-do lists, calendars, appts., etc) my schedule, and instant message with. i already have a phone, and honestly, i'm not interested in using the sidekick as a phone, as i have witnessed how cumbersome it is to open and close the screen to make calls.
so, if i can get some user opinions from people who ACTUALLY have and have used the phone, i'd greatly appreciate it. i dont need to know if they sk3 sucks or not. i just want to know how well it functions as a PDA/IM/texting. thanks![/code]

I would suggest looking at the pearl or 7100 since you've expressed a dislike of the sidekick.
I've used both and they're both very good phones and work pretty well as email devices. it also has a nice instant messaging functions. The downside is that they're not as user friendly as a side kick software.

I'd get a sidekick. It can do everything you want it to do and the data plan is the same price as a blackberry and includes txt messaging.

I have T-Mobile Sidekick 3 and I definitely like it. I never saw the point of Sidekicks until I actually got mine. Now I depend on it. Very user friendly! But it's one of those phones only the actual user understands...my hunny begged me to borrow it one day and I did so obligingly, and he could barely answer it. I've had it less than a month now and I don't have a complaint to say about it. It was very easy to figure out for me.
