Is it possible to recover a cell tower location for a call made two years ago thru Cingular ? Would they not have this information stored away for audit purposes ? i. e. charges paid to an independant tower provider ?
any help could release an innocent person from prison.

I think you could get it with a subpoena. Don't think the customer care systems go back that far but I'm sure it's in an archive that you get access to for legal reasons. Good luck!!

Thanks, but we did try with a subpoena thru an attorney and the reponse at the time was that they did not keep that information more than 60 days which I found hard to believe. Anyone else with any information please ?

Richard, I have seen you on a couple of forums, and I hope you find another way to prove this person's innocence. I wanted to let you know some more facts about this whole "independant tower provider" situation. There is no record of a phone transaction stored within Cingular because the tower owner does not get paid for all of the calls that take place through that cell site location. The indapendant tower owner (probably Bechtel, American Tower or a number of others) only owns the the phsical tower and cell site area. They get paid a monthly lease by any cellular provider that puts antennas on and equipment under their towers.
Just so you know, this answer is not a guess or a chopped up piece of second hand information. I used to install cell sites for Ericsson. We used to work with the American Tower and Bechtel guys at the same time. I assure you they only own the physical property that the cellular euipment is installed on. The only record you could get from Cingular is their monthly lease bill for that location.

Many Thanks to all of you. Although this is not my dream response I am gratefull for the information provided. This has been a great education in the workings of Cell Provider Record Practices. Perhaps one of the persons in a position of knowledge in this field could write a technical book for the legal / Investigative community on this insider information.
In my research I have found that this is an emerging tool presented in the courts and that the common knowledge of those players is woefully lacking.
Thanks again.
