Tomcat's explanation worked just fine. Screw paying for ringtones, screw TELUS.

I should mention that I could not see the ringtones on the phone until I power cycled the phone.

Tomcat's post is only good for Ringones it will not work for alerts for appointments or text messages. I will post once I've figured it out.

Tomcat, can't pm you on this board, won't allow it. Can you email me drivers from the MEK kit, or the link to dan@banditpowdercoat.com

Thx very much, in advance. I have the cable, got it off Ebay, but still doesn't seem to work, not sure if they send me the right drivers or not

First you have to get the USB Chocolate drivers that came MEK Music Essentials Kit. Humpa has them on his site. PM me and I'll give you the URL. This forum won't let me post an URL.

Install those. Then get the USB data cable for the LG 8500. Cost me 67 Canadian from telus after tax.

Then bitpim finds the phone on com4 as the VX8500

In the view menu you select "show filesystem" and then you can get to the BREW/16452/mds directory

You put your mp3 ringtones there. Then right-click any folder and reboot phone.

When the phone comes back alive you can then set your mp3 ringtone you just uploaded to the phone.

Under BREW/16452 there is a few directories. The ones I know are mds-mp3 ringtones mp-wallpapers (jpg/gif/png) and ms-midi ringtones The others, I can only guess at.

Hope this helps you.

Then I looked in my phone for the ring tone, I first looked in the Sound Settings, then Ringtones, then My Music list. Its still not there. Il give some background information of the phone just incase it may help.

Canada, Telus, LG 8500, Bought April 2 2007

PLEASE HELP ME! Ive been trying to figure this out on my own for the past 24 hours or so and it has made me really frustrated/upset.

I am with Telus and HAD a razr. Stupid Future Shop guy said it played music. His english was crap though. Anyway long story short, I have had it for about 8 months, and yesterday my Van was broken into at the movie theatre and the phone is gone with some other stuff. and I have to buy another at full price. Looks like a lot of these phones have built in Mp3 players so if I have to pay $300 for a new razr, might as well get one that has an MP3.

BUT, I found out that this SPARK crap and Telus in general seems to be restricted. I had a data cable for the Razr but could upload nothing to it or download any pics I took, and if I took a pic and wanted to forward it to a buddy, have to use their BS web service at a price.

SO my question is, if I go with this LG 8500, can I upload Mp3's from my computer easily? Or has Telus got some jump through hoops garbage so I have to use there system and download, pay per song.?

Starting to think that I should just buy out the contract and just go back to Bell and re-activate my Blackberry.

You can upload songs easily to the sd memory card from your computer. And then play the mp3's from the memory card
