Hey guys i read through this thread and my hopes are pretty high but i just bought an LG8600 on Telus and i am going to buy a usb cable, can anybody confirm that it should be the same on the 8600 as on the 8500.
I was comparing my phone with my sisters 8500 and it is essential the exact same OS so i am confindent that it will work.
I am really looking forward to never having to buy a ringtones anymore and be limited to telus's sh*tty selection of songs.

You can put custom ringtones on the phone.
first thing is first. You have to enable the filesystem in bitpim. Under "view" you can click on "filesystem" and that will put the filesystem option in the left column. This is using the MEK usb drivers and a cable.
You highlight filesystem and then click the little + by the folder in the right window pane. This will "retrieve data" from the phone. Then you can find the brew folder etc.
Telus won't help you bypass their stuff. They want to charge you to put stuff on your phone and they don't want custom stuff on the phone, only stuff they offer.
A LOT more info can be found at howard forums. It's all about cell phones. Including phones specifically from Telus and how to hack em, and customize them etc etc.
I always google my phones to find the most info I can.
Take care yall and good luck.

Sounds like yer using the 8600 (flip phone) not the 8500.
They found a way past the DRM issue on the flip phone. It's in the 8600 hacking thread at HoFo's.

It's the "phone modem kit" They say you can't use the cable to upload or mess with the phone but that's not true. Also I never used the CD that it came with for "using phone as a modem for PC/laptop"
So really I paid like 25 bucks for the cable and the rest was the software package.
Some telus outlets charge 75 for the modem kit.
