I recently purchased the Telus LG8550 Chocolate 'Spin'.
Following the instructions found in this thread, I managed to get ringtones and wallpaper uploaded to my phone. BitPim will only recognize the phone as a "Other CDMA phone on com port xx", and as such the only thing I can do is the file system. But thats all I wanted and in the file system, add your ringtones to BREW/SHARED/RINGTONES and wallpaper to BREW/MYPICTURES_LK
Thanks to the posters that enabled me to figure this out!

hi there i am a new member and i need help!
i've spent hours and days reading and reading and searching and trying to get my ringtones on my new LG 8550 choclate spin phone. i bought it 5 days ago and i have the USB cord. i also downloaded the drivers and bitpim. in bitpim it wont detect my phone. i've tried everything. it seems to only have the verizon version and i tried doing what canadian guy did putting in "other" etc and the xx port. but that still didnt work.
i downloaded the driver from a website (cant remeber now) its LG USB driver and i installed it and it said successful and may now connect my phone. so i did that. turned on bitpim and still wont detect phone. i also cant see the brew folder thing and my system files are clicked.
If am missing something plz let me know here and if i need some link to download the right drivers (i wasnt sure which one),
I tried everything! messaging the ring to myself, doing it online. downloading it. nothing works!
I would really appreciate it if anyone can help me!

ok i got help. thank you!
also i realized what i was doing wrong. the dumbest thing. i mean who would realize this!
apparently the bitpim would only recognize my phone if i pluged the usb FIRST before plugging the other end to my phone. what i normally did was have my phone attached to one end and then plug the usb to the pc.
also bitpim recognizes my phone as "other" and i had to use the brew folder and had to go to shared folders and then ringtones. and i didnt have to "send data to phone". bitpim wouldnt let me use that option anyway.
all i did was add the ring in the folder and when it was done transfering. i rebooted my phone and founded it my ringtones folder
yehaw! I had some good help from a forum member. thank u buddy
bye all!

I've also purchased a LG chocolate (8500) through Telus.
i have done what Tomcat posted and it does work, also you can put your songs to the my music folder (also under BREW - filesystem) and yes restart your phone and it does work. its alot cheaper, actually free (or pay $1.99 song.$2.00-3.50 ringone thru telus) if you have the patience you should give it a try.
does anyone know what folder to use to put games in?
my hubby really wants games.
when i learn more i will be sure to share.

i had a hard time with bitpim too
it wouldnt detect my phone, and when it did it would say " other cdma" but if bitpim isnt detecting your phone. while bitpim is open go to (control panel-add hardware) from there your pc should detect your phone then bitpim should also detect it.be sure to keep bitpim open.
in order to see the file system.you have to go to view then make sure there is a checkmark beside fiesystem. then you should see on the left side at the bottom.a folder - FILESYSTEM.
under BREW open 16452 -
mds - mp3 ringtones
mp - wallpaper , pictures you've taken
ms - midi ringtones
my music - mp3 songs ( for mp3 player)
(you just drag and drp the ringtone.etc to the correct folder)
also you can save your picture that you've taken back to your pc. in the mp folder .right click on a picture and save.you will then be promted to choose a folder to save to.

I've read everyone's comments but yet to find a solution.
I installed the drivers, installed and ran BitPim. The computer reads my phone once plugged in but the program still fails to find a connection to my phone.
I only see COM1 and COM2 ports available. Neither those or selecting "automatic" have worked.
I reinstalled my computer/usb drivers. Plugged the usb cord into all 6 of my usb ports and still have yet to be able to connect to the program.
I installed the drivers and ran the program on a friends computer and all worked seemlessly. So I'm assuming there must be something wrong on my computer. I'm running on Windows XP-64bit. Any thoughts?

Hi can someone tell me why I can't find the mds file under BREW.I have the 16452 file and under it there's "my music" and "my others" files. And nowhere is there a "mds file" in the file system.I'm using bitpim and loaded the LG drivers and have the LG chocolate spin 8550 I just got from telus 3days ago.I have done everything right up to this point but now I'm lost.Any help would be great thanks.

I see the exact same thing.
brew
16452
mymusic
myothers
under brew
under shared
mypicture
mypicture_lk
mysound
mysound lk
myvideo
myvideo_lk
ringtone
I'm able to drag and drop mp3's to the ringtone location and it works perfect
Are there any other features I'm missing that I should be able to use?
