Okay I have a LG8600 (TELUS) and I used BitPim and the USB cable. I can get BitPim to see the phone but it only shows up as a LG8100 on bitpim. I used the (VIEW)-(File system) to access the BREW folder and found the folder that I had downloaded from Crap SPARk the one ringtone I had and was able to add more to the folder using BitPim. The phone will not recognize them at all.
Just for reference the factory folder was under (brew/16452/mds) to locate the telus downloaded ringtone.
I have my music and my wall papers on the phone but It will not accept the MP3 ringtones I loaded. The ones from SPARK are in MP3 format?
I just want to add some damn ringtones to the phone that I like and not pay $2.50 a piece. This should not be this difficult to do.

ok i got help. thank you!
also i realized what i was doing wrong. the dumbest thing. i mean who would realize this!
apparently the bitpim would only recognize my phone if i pluged the usb FIRST before plugging the other end to my phone. what i normally did was have my phone attached to one end and then plug the usb to the pc.
also bitpim recognizes my phone as "other" and i had to use the brew folder and had to go to shared folders and then ringtones. and i didnt have to "send data to phone". bitpim wouldnt let me use that option anyway.
all i did was add the ring in the folder and when it was done transfering. i rebooted my phone and founded it my ringtones folder
yehaw! I had some good help from a forum member. thank u buddy
bye all!

I did get it to download the file settings. I got once you have that you can upload the files into the "mds" folder in the in the brew folder. Then once you have the files there you have to delete the oma.ringtone.dat file in the dwnlods folder. Once this is done have to power cycle the photo or reboot the phone. You will now see all your files but they are missing the red lock which is the DRM and they will not work for ringtones yet.
Then you will need a hex editor to edit the new oma.ringtone.dat file. save the oma.ringtone.dat file to you desktop and then open the file with your hex editor. You will see the hex code for each song and there will be a series of 00 00 00 00 00 00 at the end of each song just before the next code begins. You have to change the 5th last pair of of 00 to 01. Once this is done for each file then you will then need to overwrite the file using Bitpim. You will now see the red lock on all your files and you can use them.
Also try to keep the ringtones no more than 30 secs in lenght and also do not exceed 5MB or you will have issues because the internal limit is set to 5 MB.

For all of you having difficulties with LG phones - do not despair the answers are right here! DO NOT download anything at all ! XP Supports LG phones already (Only tested LG 8550 Chocolate Spin). However I do believe that they all work the same. STEP 1. Plug USB into your phone and computer. STEP 2. On phone go to Menu, then Tools. Here should be an option called "USB Mass Storage". If you have it, then select it and it should "talk" to your computer and begin the synchro process which in turn should get U 3 or 4 found new hardware popups in your bottom right corner of your computer screen. If this happens then you may now select My Computer on your computer and you should now see a removable drive attached where there will be seperate folders for music, videos, pictures. I was able to copy MP3 format music and play it succesfully on my phone and also put up a new wallpaper from my PC. I am still unsure as to ringtones as I really have not had a real chance to play with this as I just got my 8550 today and have goto work. DOH! I will post any new insights and discoveries as I find them. I really hope this helps all you disappointed customers.
