First off I'd like to stress that this topic is about the telus mobility version of the LG Chocolate or LG 8500 ( not to be confused with the LG VX8500 which is another phone )
The topics about the VX8500 are done to death but finding one for my phone is near impossible.
My question is simply how do i get past the lock that telus put on the phone that doesn't allow me to put my own files as ringtones?
Like I say, this question has been asked and answered many times for verizon's VX8500 ( simply use bitpim, which i would do, if it were compatible with this phone ) but i cannot for the life of me find information for the telus mobility version.
Any help would be greatly appreaciated.

First you have to get the USB Chocolate drivers that came MEK Music Essentials Kit. Humpa has them on his site. PM me and I'll give you the URL. This forum won't let me post an URL.
Install those. Then get the USB data cable for the LG 8500. Cost me 67 Canadian from telus after tax.
Then bitpim finds the phone on com4 as the VX8500
In the view menu you select "show filesystem" and then you can get to the BREW/16452/mds directory
You put your mp3 ringtones there. Then right-click any folder and reboot phone.
When the phone comes back alive you can then set your mp3 ringtone you just uploaded to the phone.
Under BREW/16452 there is a few directories. The ones I know are mds-mp3 ringtones mp-wallpapers (jpg/gif/png) and ms-midi ringtones The others, I can only guess at.
Hope this helps you.

Is the cable the same for the VX8500 and the Telus version 8500? I just got this cable from ebay, auction number 270091155077 for the VX8500. Before I read this thread. Heck, I bid on it before I even found this forum. This is my first cell phone. Just want to know if I wasted my money or not?

Hey Tomcat, Ive been trying to upload my phone info to bitpim but I keep getting "an unexpected exception has occured". Have you been able to crack your Telus 8500 or am I wasting my time. I do not have the MEK but do have the USB cable and the program recognizes my phone.
PLEASE HELP
