you just put the mp3 you want on the phone.
nothing special to be done.
except the 629 won't accept anything with a bitrate that goes over 192kbps

The phone will not allow an mp3 to be over 29-30 sec. Use this program called audacity ( it's free ) to chop the mp3 down to size.
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
Hope this helps,

i was having the same problem and I tried what both of you said but it still doesn't work. it's a 12 second mp3 file with bit rate 32. i transfered it with bluetooth, does that have anything to do with it? the file shows up on the phone but it blocks out the option to set as ringtone and caller ringtone. it only lets me choose alarm tone.

when you transfer it to your phone's memory make sure its in the "music" folder on your phone. thats the only thing i can think of for why its not working.

I'm having the same problem with my phone so I called the t-mobile representative. He said that Samsung has it so that you can't play downloaded mp3s as a ringtone, you have to buy them or something. He said that there are ways to get around it, but he wasn't allowed to tell me. He said that the best thing to do is go on google and look it up but I can't find any info anywhere. Please help me too! Thx

I dont know how close the 629 is to the 619. But this is the method for the 619.I hope it helps with the 629.
Click MENU
Scroll and click SETTINGS
Select SOUND SETTINGS
Select INCOMING CALL
Scroll to RINGTONE and his OK button
Scroll to MUSIC
now, you should see your mp3 ringtone in there, however, it won't be lit up like some of the other files. That's fine.
Scroll to your mp3 file. It should start to play.
Now, press SELECT about 4-5 times. Nothing will happen, but just keep pressing it.
Then press BACK
You will revert back to the Incoming Call menu. your OLD ringtone will still show. That is ok.
The phone will prompt you to SAVE. So press SAVE.
Make sure you press save.it'll kick you back to the "sound settings" menu. Go right back into the "incoming call" menu. You'll see you ringtone is now active.
