Lately I've been shopping around for a new cell phone with more functionality than my current basic nokia, goodies I'd like include a 2 megapixal camera, calender and contact fuctions that can sync with MS Outlook, and an MP3 player. Some models, such as the Nokia 6288 or 6280 (I think) look pretty good except that the review complains it only has 6 MB (maybe actually less) of internal memory, although it's clear that the phone accepts miniSD cards up to 2 GB. I'm confused, is cell phone "internal memory" like RAM on a PC, where if you don't have enough it can hamper the speed of applications, or is it just storage space. And if it's the former, how do you know how much is enough? (i.e. if I'm just running a word editor and a music player on my PC, I don't need a ton of RAM). Can someone help me clear this up?

No, internal memory is for storage.
6 MB is more than enough.
It only will be a problem if the phone can't be set to save all incoming messages on the memory card.
Because incoming stuff via bluetooth, like when a friend sends you a mp3 via bluetooth from his phone, will be saved in the same spot. So if it's less than the mp3 you won't be able to transfer it.

I have a regular nokia n-gage not the qd. and it has 3.5 mb of memory on the phone that is what applications use to run but most symbian applications designed to run on that phone will symbian version whatever it is can never remember. if a program doesn't run on the phone look for another version of that same program or one that does the same thing it might not be designed to be used on that particular phone. java version symbian version etc.
