My 6620 came with a 32 mb MMc that said it was read only - unuseable. I called Rogers & Nokia - all they said was to return the whole kit. I did and new kit had same issue. After exchanging many lunatic emails with uncaring Rogers, I gave up. But it seems silly to have a card and not be able to use it. I haven't found this issue in any forum so maybe it's just me but I wonder why both brand new phones were exactly the same. All the memory functions - re-name, format etc. - come up with the read only/can't do it reply. I would appreciate any advice.

Have you tried taking out the card and re-insert it?
I only had this problem sometimes with my 6600 and only had to take out the card and put it back in.

Bjoern, I've tried taking it out and re-inserting and it doesn't have any effect. I even tried a method touted on another (Symbian) forum that involved inserting the card while keeping the phone on - not too difficult when you get the hang of it - but no dice. I get the same "unreadable" message when I try to use the card.

What is the problem now?!
First you say it's read only, now it is unreadable?!

Sorry - it says read only. But it also says the card is empty - nothing to read.

Can you format the card with the phone?
Have you checked if all connectors and pins are clean and really connect?

When I go to memory in the Extras menu, the card shows up "Name Canon DC Capacity 31 MB Used 0 MB Free 31 MB". When I choose to format this card, I get "Unable to perform operation. Memory card is read-only."
I have removed the card and wipe the pins many times. This does not seem to be the problem. The card is recognized but as read only.

Have you access to a card reader or a digital camera to test the card?
If the card won't work in any other device I would say it's a defective card.
