This is how it goes with Verizon, they like to make sure that the files you are sending, IE pictures ringtones ect, are making them money. Which i mean, is a great business plan, but jerky to their customers.
What the OBEX problem is, is that they have OBEX disabled from PHONE TO PHONE so with my 8300, i can't send any sort of file to any other phone unless i use pix/flix messaging.
However, with some of the newer phones in Verizon (8500 chocolate, and 8600 and a few others) you CAN connect them to your computer and do OBEX transfer with your computer. So you can get your pictures and ringtones off and on that way using bitpim.
So that is why OBEX doesn't work from phone to phone, but you could still get the files from your computer.

I think he means use the cord with bitpim. thats what I do. We're talking phone to phone bluetooth transfers and stuff.
