Hey, I was a little concerned that the Chocolate doesn't have OBEX but I called Verizon and asked if it would become available (like as a firmware update) and they said that it would. For some reason I don't believe them. The woman that I talked to said that they've had updates like this in the past for other phones. I'm still a little skeptical though. Have you all ever seen updates like this? What would one of these updates entail?
Thanks,
Your curious friend,
Williewill

I've had my Chocolate since early September, and was able to transfer from my Mac G4 Powerbook to the phone via OBEX Bluetooth.
(when i make the choc discoverable to the mac....after a few seconds to pair the choc... the choc screen includes OBEX object push.) Later on I had the speakerphone update, everything is still working grreat.
Here is a copy paste of info from my Mac bluetooth preferences:
Device Name: LG VX8500
Device Address: 00-12-56-ff-77-86
Device Type: Phone
Device Services: AV Remote Control Target, Voice Gateway, Voice Gateway, BT DIAG, Bluetooth Modem, OBEX Object Push, AV Audio Source
Paired: Yes
Configured: Yes
Favorite: Yes
Connected: No
Serial Port: Yes
Hope this helps

Hmm... That's interesting. See, back in December I tried to send myself an mp3 from my friend's Sony Ericsson but there was some error message on both of our screens that said that my Bluetooth was incapable of receiving files. Furthermore, I don't seem to have the option to be able to send any files to other phones. Unfortunately I do not have a computer or PDA with bluetooth so I can't look into it more comprehensibly but from what I remember about reading up on the specs of the Chocolate, it didn't have OBEX.

Recently Sprint and Verizon disable OBEX, currently Cingular and Tmobile are the only ones I'm aware of that OBEX isn't blocked on.

Hmm, why would they do that? Is there a way around it or something? I just think that's really weird.

Yeah, I use BitPim too but I'd just really like to get music files from my friends and send them some of mine when they ask.

yea that would be cool, however the present operating system on the chocolate will only send name card files via bluetooth. Maybe in later models, but I doubt the RIAA and AMPAS wouldn't put up a fight before it hits the market.

Well yeah, you might be right about the RIAA and AMPAS, but there are other phones that have OBEX and can already break the rules, ya know?

I have tried to get phone data using bitpim over bluetooth and all I get are errors. the phone displays numbers then bitpim errors out. Any special steps that you had to do?
