hi aryone, what exactly did you do?. what MP did you flash it with?. did you use RSD Lite?.
try to put it in flash mode in the same way you were saying. by pressing *,#,POWER AND at the same time (DON'T release keys) put back in the battery.
check if the RSD Lite detects it as S FLash Neptune. (If you downgraded your BL, sometimes it wont show the Bootloader screen but it still there)
In case it doesnt or show as S Blank Neptune, you can use p2k Easy Tool to repair the PDS (in case you flashed it with a wrong MP). and then you will be able to flash it to what you want.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

Hello everybody, first time posting here.
I seem to be suffering from a similar problem to aryone.
I have a V3. I was trying to unlock the phone. First I made a full backup and a PDS backup, so I _should_ be safe there.
I am uncertain about how did things go wrong, when I was following a procedure read somewhere else. Bottom line is, the flashing procedure went wrong, and the phone would just start in boot mode. I tried Repstudio, and that seemed to finally kill my V3.
Right now, the phone will not power on normally. I cannot make my computer "recognize" that I have plugged it to the usb cable. I have tried pressing * and # with the battery out, holding, putting in the battery, and only then releasing. I have also tried pressing *, # and POWER, while putting in the battery. I dont see any change or effect, the computer will not recognize the phone.
Sometimes when I put in the battery, the keyboard lights up for a second, then stays off. Then if I press POWER, the keyboard starts blinking and stays that way until I take the battery off. Some other times, when I insert the battery, the keyboard starts blinking right away.
I _think_ I would be able to fix the phone with the PSD backup and several tutorials found here, IF I COULD MAKE IT communicate with the computer. But the fact that I dont seem to be able to start the phone in bootloader mode is frustrating, as I cannot do anything.
Does anybody know what can I do to troubleshoot the computer/V3 connection?
I have followed the guide in maxedmobiles to install the motorola drivers, just to be sure these were up to date, up to where your phone should be recognized, because mine isnt.

Thank you so much in advance.

hi 0DD. well it sounds like you flashed with the wrong firmware. that could've messed up the BL as well.

In my opinion, try to do this:
- first, try to get the phone be detected by the computer. Make sure your battery is charged, otherwise it won't let you do anything.Hope you can get it at least in FLash Mode. (make sure what BootLoader your phone has. you can use RSD Lite or flash back to check this) NOte: if you phone lights up. probably it's already in flash mode but the screen will remain in black. check that.

- After it's detected like that. then use p2k Easy Tool, select the model (V3) and in the repair tab, select PDS (including checksums) and click on 'do select jobs'.

- Then you might try to use the back up you have to flash it back with what you had before. also using p2k easy tool. in case that doesnt work, you can use RSD Lite or flash back3.

Hope this works. and in future. try to unlock it with P2K Easy tool. I've heard it's the easiest way without downgrading the BL (I cant tell since i used the other method like you did).

Cheers.

angel6677, thank you for your prompt reply. It brings me some hope hearing that the blinking keyboard _may_ mean that the phone is in flash mode. However, the big problem for me right now consists in having the computer recognize the phone at all. The battery is fully charged.

Could someone please tell me what are the steps to set the phone in flash mode and have it recognized by the computer, assuming that the bootloader is messed up? Maybe I am getting it into flash mode (screen is blank, but I see that it could be blank while being in boot mode). The only visible effect that my pressing of * and # while plugging in the battery has, is that the keyboard turns on and off, some times faster than others. The blinking is also kind of dim.

When I connect it to the computer using the USB cable, no message saying "recognized USB device" pops up. I am pretty certain that I have correctly installed Motorola drivers, it just does not detect a device connected to the USB port (the USB port LED does not light up, as it does when something active is connected). RSD Lite does not see a phone connected, as can be expected since Windows doesnt see it in the first place. Stablishing the "computer-phone" connection is what is failing for me right now, and I cannot check anything until that is solved. That is why I ask the steps for stabilishing the connection, something "written for fools" just to be sure I am not missing anything silly and obvious.

I hope I am not taking too much space/time. Thanks a lot in advance!

Hey 0DD, nothing is fool here.
Well, if you're sure you have the right drivers and the battery is full. then Do one of these things to make sure your phone can be detected by your PC.

- Open a couple of programs (this is to make sure if your phone is being detected). Open RSD Lite and also the 'Device Manager' (you can right-click in My Computer icon and click on MANAGE, you wiil see the Device Manager in there)

- Now, Take the battery out. connect your phone to your pc with USB cable. then press #,*,POWER keys and at the same time (without releasing keys) put the battery back in.
This will put your phone in BootLoader (flash mode), you may not see the screen but leave that to your PC.
= If you hear the sound like something is being connected to the usb port. you will see a message saying 'Unknown Device' or something like that. give it 10 sec to be recognized. You can check the RSD Lite to see if it's there as "S Flash Neptune" and also check the Device Manager to see if "Motorola Flash Interface" is in there (active only if phone is detected). If you see those things. that means your phone has been detected and you can flash it now to upgrade your BL or to any MP you want. NOTE: the BL 07.D0 or something like that wont let you see the screen of the BL, that's what i told you it might be there. but you can upgrade it to 08.26 (with the right flash file)

- If none of that makes your phone detected. try connecting and desconnecting your phone with the usb cable and see if the RSD Lite recognizes it as "S Blank Neptune". (you can try this with or without the battery and it might take many times to do this). then, after your phone is detected as blank neptune, close RSD Lite and use p2k Easy Tool. You will repair the PDS here by going to Repair tab and selecting the model (v3) and check the checksum option and click on 'do jobs selected' . then you might wanna try to flash your phone to any MP. (pick an UNLOCKED one)
NOTE: p2k easy tool can unlock V3 without a problem (according to other people).

= Now, if nothing of this works, then you might wanna do the testpoint and use p2k easy tool to do the same like i said (repair the PDS).

Sometimes these things happen cuz we flash the phone with the wrong flash file (which messes up the firmware of the phone). but you can always rely on the BL since that's the first thing that downloads. Hope this helps. and Hopefully, you wont have to do the TESTPoint.

Cheers

Hello again. I have had VERY little time to mess around with the phone tonight, but I had a small yet big improvement: once I got windows to pop up the message of "new hardware detected" and then "a problem was encountered when installing your hardware and it may not work properly". As far as I can tell, the "connection" got interrupted in the middle of the process, and windows wouldnt see the phone anymore (there was no unknown device in the Device Manager).

Still, I have to thank you angel6677 for your help. Seems like its going to be a matter of trial and error till I get the timing right, apparently the * and # and POWER have to stay pressed for quite a while till windows recognizes the phone, and whenever it fails, the phone stays "stuck" in the blinking mode and I have to waite quite a while till I can try again (taking the battery off and then putting it back on will just resume the blinking keyboard). I was feeling so frustrated and disoriented that I wouldnt think of "trying several times the same thing" until you said it was worth a try.

Will post again with details as soon as I figure out what was it that made my phone be (briefly) seen by Windows. Thanks again!

hi 0DD, it's weird that is giving you the message of 'New Hardware Found' . cuz that will pop up only if the drivers for the 'flash interface' are not installed. (are you trying in the same usb port or a different one?) . the reason windows fails to install the SW there, it's cuz the phone is turned off probabbly.
Anyways. If you have other motorola phone, connect it and see if the drivers are installed. also about putting the phone in 'flash mode'. you have to press the keys at the same time you put the battery in. (it's hard with one hand sometimes) and at last, try connecting and disconnecting the phone from the usb port.

Are you using WinXP?. I've heard Win2K has some problems with this stuff. Hope this helps.

See ya.
