How to perform a seem edit on your Razr V3C or V3M

For most people i would assume that performing the first seem edit on your phone is a wee bit confusing. Im going to try lay that one to rest here be explaining how to perform your first seem edit and how to interpret seem edits you read about.

For this application we will be using:

* Motorola Razr V3C for Verizon
* USB cable connection
* PST 7.2.3 - Phone Programmer
* P2KSeem 4v710

How to perform your first seem edit

1. Plug in your phone via the USB cable
2. Start Phone Programmer (comes with PST 7.2.3)
3. If you've installed the additional drivers for Phone Programmer before, skip this step. If you havnt, you will be asked to install a couple new drivers. Use Search for a device. then use Specify a location. then select the directory where you original V3C drivers are located ( if you used our guide on setting up your V3C drivers then your location would be c:\V3C Drivers )
4. You should hear a series of USB chimes. Wait till they stop, and Phone Programmer is ready to be used.
5. Start P2KSeem4v710
6. Now, in the bottom right where it says Load, there should be an input box labeled Seem: -- this is where you type in 2742 (which is where most seems are located).
7. To the right, there is Record: -- make sure that this says 1
8. Theres a input box above Load thats labeled Bytes (h) -- the default should be 7a -- which does work, but not for what we're doing. Here you need to change it to 90
9. Then you click the [Load from Phone] button under the load section.
10: You will see a bunch of random numbers in the top left of the seem editer. These are the actual seems. How these work, is like a graph. the left side is 00 - 80 and the top is 0-9 & A-F

11. Hope you're not too confused now, because its time to change this bad girl. The seem we are editing to enable vibrate then ring is offset: 7b with turning off Bit 3 and turning on Bit 4

12. This means that we need to locate the seem on line 7 aka 000070 -- now follow that line to the right where it should say -- 0e -- click on 0e and the "Selected Byte Details" should have changed to say "Offset: 007b" and bits 1, 2, and 3 are checked.

13. To enable vibrate then ring, UNCHECK BIT 3 and then you need to CHECK BIT 4 -- bit 3 should not have a check, and bit 4 should have a check.

14. Wam bam thank you ma'am. We're ready to write the seem. In the bottom right under Save, theres a button labeled [Save to Phone] -- click it!

15. And we're done. almost. Now you need to restart your phone, which can be done by clicking [ Restart Phone ] above the Load area. Otherwise, you can just turn your phone off and on.

16. Now how do you actually turn Vibe then Ring on? The only way ive been able to figure out how to turn it on is by closing my phone, then press the double button on the left (the one on the left closest to the camera) and then press the single button on the left side, located below the double, and click it in until the screen reads -- Ring Styles -- Style: Vibe then. -- now press the double key again to set it.

15. Bingo. Its all set. Now you can use this method to figure out other seems edits . [seem 2742] [length 90] [offset 7b] [turn off bit 3] [turn on bit 4] --
This list is primarily for Verizon RAZR's (v3c / v3m) but some of the main seem edits appear to be the same for Sprint razr's and a few other carriers like enable usb transfer and MPT subsidy code.
If a seem edit does not list the RECORD that needs to be changed, assume that it is intended to be set to 1

Requirements for doing a seem edit:
* USB drivers installed
* PST 7.2.3 - Phone Programmer
* P2K Seem Editor

Enables USB Transfers pictures/ringtones/video/etc WORKS
2742 Bytes: 0000 Offset 6a check bit 0 // check bit 1 If you want to use any P2K program or Mobile Phone Tools you first need to perform this seem edit to enable USB transfers between your phone and your computer. Required for V3C and V3M
Enable MultiMedia Studio (MMS) in MPT 4+ WORKS
2827 Bytes: 0000 Offset 0006 check bits 0 - 2 - 3 - 6 This seem edit makes it so that MPT gives you the v3cm option to set your phone as, which will allow you to use MMS to upload content to your phone.
Enable Dial Up Networking (DUN) WORKS
2742 Bytes: 0000 Offset 6a check bit 3 ahh yes use your razr to get an internet connection anywhere that you have reception! ahuh, that is right.

Remove Outside LCD Orange Background WORKS
2742 Bytes: 0000 Offset 94 uncheck bit 7 Changes ugly orange background on the outside LCD when your phone is closed and the time is displayed. Makes it so that it displays your wallpaper instead. After performing the seem edit, restart your phone to activate the changes.

Enable Vibrate then Ring WORKS
2742 Bytes: 0000 Offset 7b uncheck bit 3 // check bit 4 The following seem edit is almost a requirement to prevent volume resets after enabling vibrate then ring. This seem edit changes the ringer volume interface to original Motorola style where its 1-7 as opposed to low-high. A definate bonus and valuable addition! 2742 Bytes: 0000 Offset 7b uncheck bit 2 // check bit 7

Change Carrier Banner WORKS
296a Bytes: 24 Record: 0005 Allows you to change "Verizon Wireless" or otherwise to something of your liking. Make sure to take note of the different seem, bytes, and record.

Enable continuos backlight option WORKS
2742 Bytes: 0000 Offset 0a check bit 7 Enables Settings > Initial Setup > Backlight > Continuous
Makes the backlight of the keypad stay on continuously.
Not particularly recommended for battery conservation

Change or Find your Security Code WORKS
2786 Bytes: 0000 Record: 1 Allows you to find or change the security that is used when accessing the programming menu (#0SETUP*). You can also change it by clicking on each invidual number (usually 000000 on the right seperated by periods) and typing in a new code (possibly only numbers)

Change or Find your Subsidy Code WORKS
0055 Bytes: 0006 Record: 0001 no description at this time. contribute a description anybody?

Change your Bluetooth device name (IE: "Motorola Phone") NEW! WORKS
2842 Bytes: 0000 Record: 0001 Change the bluetooth device name of your Razr. When you use a bluetooth dongle this is the name of the device that shows up on the bluetooth program. Provided by Casper

Enables Custom Battery Save WORKS
2742 Bytes: 0000 Offset 69 check bit 3 Enables Settings > Initial Setup > Battery Save: Custom
Allows you to customize a few things. "Optimal" seems to be the best setting, but be warned none of this has been tested and the actual effects are unknown.

Change 1x icon to a D icon WORKS
2742 Bytes: 0000 Offset 74 uncheck bit 7 Changes the 1x icon displayed in the top bar of the verizon razr to a D icon.

Adds "continental" ringtone WORKS
2742 Bytes: 0000 Offset 38 check bit 1

Adds "classic" ringtone WORKS
2742 Bytes: 0000 Offset 38 check bit 2

Adds "attention" ringtone WORKS
2742 Bytes: 0000 Offset 38 check bit 3

Adds "moonlist haze" ringtone WORKS
2742 Bytes: 0000 Offset 3b check bit 0

Adds "siren" ringtone WORKS
2742 Bytes: 0000 Offset 6 check bit 1

Enable Time & Date menu STEP 1 WORKS

Install Motorola PST 7.23 and then apply the Unipatch
You will need to click OK several times until it is done.

Then install the V3C Driver Tool
Use P2K Seem Editor to edit the Seem Files
It is a good idea to save your original files before
you modify them. When you use Motorola Mobile
Phone Tools, select CMDA, V3CM or V3MM as the
Modem type . you can then transfer files to & from the
Verizon V3M phone . If you have the latest MPT V4.63
you only need to do the "enable usb transfers" Seem edit

Note: On a V3 series phone, you can access the Engineering
Menu, which has additional options, such as Browser settings,
by Pressing: #073887* as soon as you flip open the phone.
You will need to enter the Security Code: 000000 to access
the menu. The above is the default unless you have changed it.
