I've heard that this can be done and it will help save battery life. Does anyone know the procedure?
I've also read that text messages and missed calls can be accessed without opening the phone. Can someone walk me through this too? Thanks.

Turning off EVDO
Push ok to go into the menu. Push 0. It will ask you for a service code which is six zeros. Go down to network select, mode preferences and set it to 1x only.

Thanks!
So checking the 'Digital Only Hybrid' circle will re-enable the network?

What is the advantage of doing that? Is it only battery life or will it give you better or worse reception, etc?

I have tried desperately to turn off EVDO on my LG VX8600. I found these instructions, but pressing 0 in the menu does nothing. I tried the same steps on my dad's LG VX8300, and it worked. I received the phone mid-June 2007.
Did Verizon take away the ability to turn off EVDO, or is there another process now?
PLEASE help- Thanks!
