hey guys,
im pretty new to flashing so had a few questions (if they've been answered before, if someone could please leave a link to a previous thread):
1) what's the difference between test point flashing, regular flashing as with smart clip, and flashing through usb cable?
2) what is the software required for flashing? for example...lets say im using smart clip for motorola...i would need software for the smart clip plus software for the motorola phone?
3) any other info (articles, tutorials), on flashing would be greatly appreciated especially on the technical background about flashing...schematics etc?
thanks a lot !!

1) Testpoint allows you to write directly to memory - useful if there is problem with phone. Smartclip is good for unlocking or repairing PDS - but old fool is the expert on the smartclip. For most people usb cable and software is fine - but what are you trying to achieve?
2) RSD Lite is best for usb cable, with smartclip use smartmoto

thanks for the reply.
well im trying to flash (debrand) some phones that have prepaid software on it....i know people have done it so trying to learn about it and end up doing it.
i had a few more questions from what u wrote:
i still don't understand what the difference is with test point and regular flashing with a usb cable...could u plz explain a little bit more. u said it writes directly to the memory...but it still needs software to do that from what i understand so whats the difference...what does test point bypass which regular flashing with usb cable does not? also where do you connect the cables on the circuit board of the phone for test point flashing? (any pics or links would be greatly appreciated)
btw i was asking abt test point cuz i saw it here which has a lot of other good stuff too: http://www.fonefunshop.co.uk/Unlocking/testpoint.htm

Take a look at this http://wiki.howardforums.com/index.php/SHX_File_Modding_Guide
If you just want to debrand flashing with RSD Lite should be ample

can you explain why?...ive heard of unlocked firmware...
i know the SIM locks are located in the phone's memory...so doesn't a full flash clear the whole memory (including any locks)...since a phone has only one memory (EEPROM chip) from what i understand.
so im wondering...is the reason that a flash will NOT unlock because there is no firmware without any locks OR because a full flash doesnt erase the locks because they are stored somewhere else in the phone?
i really need to know plz...thanks

It doesn't erase the lock - an unlocked flex simply means it will not lock an unlocked phone.
Basically a flex can lock but not unlock a phone
