I have quite an intriguing question here.
I am a Cingular prepaid "GoPhone" customer, and am quite unhappy with their rates, especially the data rate of $0.01 per kb. Because of this, I am thinking about switching to T-mobile's prepaid service.
I own a Cingular 8525, and was wondering.... If I were to get an unlock code for my phone, would T-mobile sell me a prepaid SIM card for the Sidekick Unlimited prepaid plan, or does T-mobile have a policy requiring customers to purchase the Sidekick 3 in order to use the data plan associated with it?
That being said, I know that T-mobile do not currently have a UMTS nor HSDPA network rolled out yet, but I do not currently get 3G service with Cingular where I live...so that much wouldn't make a difference. However, one other question that I have, is, has there been any word as to which network frequencies T-mobile will use when they roll out their 3G network? My 8525 has the ability to use UMTS/HSDPA 850, 1900, and 2100 frequencies.
Information regarding either of my questions would be appreciated. Thank you.

Don't even try that, will not work. A sidekick requires a connection to the danger servers for all of its data features. The sidekick plan is what gives the phone its connection to danger. No other phones can use this plan because of this. Only sidekick can connect into the danger network.

Oh, I see. And, I'm guessing it wouldn't work if I were to go into my phone's WAP settings and change them to mimic the Sidekick 3's, either?

Nope. Will not work. No matter what you try a phone can not communicate with the danger servers unless it is a sidekick.

Ah, okay. I'm glad I didn't go through all that before asking, then.
Thanks a lot! =)
