My two years is finally up on my old LG flip phone next week. I'm looking to jump to a Motorola Q or Treo 650.... BUT... my phone is part of a 4-phone family plan....
What kind of functionality will I miss out on by not subscribing to the data choice or whatever it is?
Honestly, I'm only looking for a qwerty keyboard (would go with the EnV but I don't want a phone that looks like a camera) for text messaging, and perhaps the onboard organizer/calendar.
How would using the internet work? Is it only $5.00 a month per phone? Or would I need to subscribe to a data plan for internet capability with the Q?
Thanks

You will not be able to use it for internet abilities, text messaging or email.

If you use it for the internet without a data plan be ready for a huge bill! It will remain connected until you go into the task manager on the device and turn it off too. The $5 mobie web plan for a phone is totally different. You cant do much with it. The data plan for a PDA is allowing you to use the internet like you would on your computer. Text messages dont use data so you can still use the $10 $15 or $20 text packages for that. However sending pictures connects you to the internet and uses kilobytes though so you will be charger for that. My advice is if you are just getting it to use as a phone you are wasting your money.
