I currently am a sub-family plan user in an expired contract under my mom's account, (i'm 14). It's being canceled in 2 days. Now my dad has had a t-mobile 600 min/month plan for 3 months now and is in a 1 year contract.
On to my inquiry, if I were to join in as a family add-on to my dad's contract, are there any deals on good phones I can get, or must I get a new, separate , contract for that?
Oh, by the way, I have an HTC Wizard which i got for free 8 months ago, so if someone could just explain how I could keep my number, I would be satisfied.

Umm change of responsibility and by the way you cant get on to your dads plan because he is on a individual plan if you would like to change his plan to a family plan then it would require his contract to get renewed as well as yours for 24 month
Good Luck

Correction:
Do a change of responsibility. You can add a seperate line under your dad with your own set of minutes. When a change of responsiblity goes through it doesn't automatically make you renew unless you pick a promo price plan (those usually being the specials or anything with nights and weekends free). All price plan contracts are only 12 months.
Or you can do a change of responsiblity and have your dad switch to a family time plan and share minutes, again, will require a contract renewal to do so for a max of 12 months.
If you do a change of responsibility, your tenure towards getting a new phone doesn't follow you so I would recommend upgrading before you do the change of responsiblity. Even if you sign a contract, this won't stop you from switching to your fathers account because the whole point of CoR's are to allow customers who don't want their contract/phone anymore to give it to someone else.
If you start as a new customer, you will not be able to keep your current number, you would be assigned a new one. As for going with being a new subscriber - Who's going to be the billing name? Because please keep in mind that in order to get post paid service, you must be 18 years old. If you go prepaid, you pay almost full price for the phone because there is no guarentee how long you'll stay with T-Mobile.

An add-on is a new activation of service, depending on the phone you should, as the add-on will require a contract obligation
To port your number, you must keep the service active with your current provide in order to port your number over, check first with your current service providers some after the completion of the porting will keep the number active until the end of the bill cycle, T-Mobile cancels the service the same day that the number is ported out
Make sure you wait until AFTER the contract’s end date, because you cannot predict exactly when the porting process will be completed even if one day the service provider and charge you an early termination fee if you’re still under contract when the service is then canceled
Oh and change of responsibility will only work if both parties are of legal age
